I don't know man...having a job you really like, enables you to be the primary breadwinner, has flexibility and good but not great pay can be a pretty hard thing to find - especially in Columbus, GA.

I'll get my name on the door here, just don't know if it's in 2, 3, 4, 5 or more years. I need more clarity on that front.  But you're correct, I'm in a very limited market for my particular area of practice, and I do have a tremendous amount of flexibility.  I'm terrified to give the last part up.

I get it, location matters. So does having some level of comfort.

But, if you're debating a move, and the only thing that stops you is cash, you're probably going to be moving. Because typically, pay isn't the only reason you're looking.

This is what I needed to hear . . . I don't think I have any desire to do that.  And in speaking elsewhere with Jdave, I don't think I want to do medical malpractice defense either.

That would be hard for me on a "I want to be a decent human" level.

Even the most vile forms of law practice are necessary, and can be done with dignity.

I don't disagree. I never give lawyers any ****. But, given a choice between defending a person or a business, 99% of the time, my predisposition is towards the individual.

With that said, I can also separate work from home, and assume Hoopah is a stand-up guy based on our interactions.

I know that nobody asked me, but you really need to become a personal injury attorney and put up your TV ads in the Savannah area. I'm getting really tired of seeing the same three lawyers all over my TV when I'm trying to watch a game. I need some variety.

That one is great, but this one is better...

My wife and a few of my friends are in insurance defense. The people who moved from general insurance defense to work comp have ended up frustrated with the volume and transactional nature of work comp. FWIW.

Also I remembered from the interview, my across the street neighbors’ daughter is an attorney, couple of years younger than me. She has worked in Birmingham, Columbus, and Atlanta. She’s been with like 5 different firms in 7 years. But she was with the firm with which I interviewed today, and I mentioned knowing her. The main partner said that she did not enjoy the grind of workers comp defense work and wanted to get back to regular defense work.

I don’t really know her (her parents are nice), but if she’s been at that many firms, she doesn’t like to work very hard. But it’s telling she would prefer regular defense at other Atlanta firms to workers comp defense also.
