KCFalcon22 904
2 questions for my fellow Falcons. How do most of you feel about Arthur calling his own plays? The reason that I ask this is bc a lot of people here didn't want Bieniemy to call his own plays if he got the job. How do you think a 1st time coach handles both play calling and overseeing the team as a whole? Be nice to hear what everyone's thoughts are on this. JDaveG 43,695
I love it. I would have been fine with Bieniemy doing it too, though. I love it mainly because we won't have too many growing pains if the OC gets a head coaching job down the road. Continuity on offense has been terrible since Ryan got here. With McVay, Shanny, and LaFleur doing the same, we should expect no less from this hire. KCFalcon22, g-dawg, CrimsonFalcon and 3 others
falcons007 24,668
HC calling plays, first year or experienced is nothing new. It should work well with the falcons offense. Just hire an experienced defensive Coordinator. Sportsman2593, JDaveG and KCFalcon22 2

Now this is what intrigues me (same with EB). I was all for EB and started to sour on him towards the end. I didn't think of it this way but you are correct this saves the MATT HAS TO LEARN YET ANOTHER OC'S PLAYBOOK.

WisFalcon 1,787
It depends on the person. Plenty of first time coaches have done great calling their own plays. Just depends on the person and if they can handle it KCFalcon22
Monolith2001 5,054
If it worked, I'd be all for it. 😄 That's an awful lot to manage (especially first year) so best to find a guy who can push your vision.
Voice of Reason 763
Who had issues with the thought Of EB calling his own plays? I thought the main concern with EB is that he currently doesn’t call his own plays. g-dawg, ATLSlobberKnockers, red falcon and 6 others 8
Romfal 11,735
big fan and the main reason I wanted an offensive coach. No chance of Shanahan happening all over again where we have a good thing going and they get a HC job and we have to bring in somebody else to do a patch job and it all goes down the toilet. its a lot easier to replace a defensive coordinator in my mind. fuego, A Pimp Named Slickback™, KCFalcon22 and 3 others
Mister pudding 3,399
I love it and hate it at the same time. We all witnessed how Quinn could not juggle HC and defense at the same time. I feel confident in his playcalling, but please surround him with sound coaching so he can handle all aspects before him KCFalcon22
E. T. 5,808
I'm definitely cool with it. Who's going to be up in the booth is the real question. We'll find out soon enough. KCFalcon22

hjerry 26,644
Same as I would feel about the OC calling the plays, if he does it well... My opinion will be reserved until then Likewise the other thing to keep an eye on is if he can do this and everything else a HC needs to do during a game, and do both well My opinion on that will also be on hold falconsd56

campdirtybirdz 42
Most of the best teams in the NFL have have head coaches calling their own plays. We thought that's what we were getting with Quinn when he got here, but it turns out Quinn wasn't the genius defensive mind we thought he was. capitan

FalconFan13 1,628
One of the biggest things i look forward to seeing again from his scheme and calls is Julio catching slant and crossing routes again. He was one of the best in the business at getting them in open space and then turning them up field for TD's for a good while there. If Arthur can continue to scheme people open for good yac opportunities with the speed and ability of our WR's we will be unstoppable again. My biggest problem with Koeetters play calls outside of them taking forever to run and get open is that their was very little yac potential on alot of them.
Atl Falcon 4,141
Not sure right now check back next year....but a lot of folks here wouldn’t like it Andy Reid was calling plays. Great play callers can do both HC and OC KCFalcon22
