Trade Matt for a second in next years draft. Draft a QB 4th overall. Rookie QB busts or is injured. Then what? Draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round next year? Risk wasting a year then.

41million off our cap is as good as a 1st rounder in my eyes.... a 37 year old qb is not 1 round material sorry not sorry😐

Much worse QBs have went for much more. Sam Bradfords corpse went for a 1st and a 4th.

That's not how it works.  We won't have 41 million off our cap.  We'll actually have something like $3 million added to the cap pre June 1, and about $23 million in cap savings but huge dead cap hits over 2 years post June 1.

I'm guessing these trade packages include trading dead cap.  Otherwise they don't make sense.

We probably still have to go this route. I see everybody saying cut Rico, and a lot of other players. They may not be stars, but they're role players. Of we cut them, we will have to find their replacements, and depth. If we can deal Matt and Julio, we have to make those business decisions. We also have to factor in the cap reduction.

You can't trade the dead cap from the signing bonus and guaranteed money.  You can trade the base salary per year. So  they make some sense, but not a lot.

A trade next season is imminently do-able, and the season after that it would be easy.

Oh, I don't think we have to do anything.  We can trade Matt and Julio, if someone wants them, but we don't have to.  We can trade Rico, but we don't have to.  There are lots of options.

If we cut enough cap room we can replace key players in FA.  And there is a LOT of dead weight on this team right now.

It’s not hard to find a cheaper replacement for Rico. Finding a QB isn’t as easy, ask teams who struggled for decades to find a franchise QB. If Falcons think they have replacement at QB, go for it. I rather cut role players who can be replaced in draft or cheaper in FA.

It's doable this year as well, we just wouldn't be able to use that money. The picks we would get this year though would likely be better than next. It also frees up a ton of cap for next year and future cap space is almost as good as cap space this year. It allows us the flexibility to at least have the option to move money around from this year to next.

Yeah, I could have worded that better.  It can certainly be done this year.  I disagree it frees up a ton of cap for next year though.  The only way it works this season at all is post June 1 and doing that, the 2nd half of the pro-rated bonus still hits the cap next season.

I don't think Ryan is going anywhere, but if he does, a 1st will be included in the deal. If the Falcons want to trade MR, there is a market for him. San Francisco, Patriots, Colts, etc. could all be possible trade partners.

That will greatly depend on the draft and FA. SF and NE in particular probably already have a plan in place.

An expensive, aging QB with a dwindling arm that's hearing footsteps isn't very valuable to other teams.

All starting QBs are valuable and he wouldn't be that expensive to another team. 23, 20 and 16 mil over the next three seasons since we would eat all the guarantees. That is easily a bargain considering the Colts just paid Rivers 25 million

I'd be willing to bet shanny would give pick 12 for Ryan. Replace Garoppolo with Ryan on that team the past few years and they're easily in or winning another super bowl if for no other reason that Ryan can actually stay on the field.

Dwindling arm? Where do you guys get this stuff? I watched him throw 55 yards in the air this year (at least twice in the last 3 or 4 games). Accuracy and decision-making I could agree with, but arm strength? Come on, man.

Let's not reach. His decision-making is what is baffling. But as bad as we've sucked, maybe he wouldn't be doing that if we had a defense that didn't require a 5 score lead in the last 2 quarters to preserve a win.

I've actually read some reports out of Frisco a few months back that said Shanny would be open to trade that pick for Ryan....Of course...they are just reports...but also said Shanny is getting frustrated...and that Ryan has been the only one that has been able to run his offense the way that he likes....

Wish I had a link but it was a while ago
