Small chance I know, but if I was GM this is the direction I would probably go. 37 year old MR, and a recently oft injured JJ, it's probably time to move on. New Falcon's GM Rick Smith, hires EB, and then promptly shocks the world by pulling off the Falcon's second "Michael Vick" trade. RS has looked over the Falcon's roster and determined that it makes more sense to burn it down, and rebuild. He jettison's MR & JJ, adding a 2 late 1sts this year, and a 2nd rounder next year. In order to get Lawrence, he sends the Jaguars the #4 pick, & the 2 late firsts. Jags = 3,000 Falcons #4 = 1,800 2 late 1sts = 1,200 + Future will look bright, because Falcons take the cap hits in 2021, and they don't have to give up future draft capital to get TL. Guys like TL don't come along every year. Go get him TD...I mean RS! So we are going to start TL and let him get killed behind this OL also he can think about retiring in 4-5 years? Jags are not passing that up unless it's for something insane. that about sums it up, and if the falcons did that i'd throw my tv through the front window. While getting the qb of the future is tempting....it is not needed. Ryan needs to play better at times and not miss some of the plays that he has missed but overall he does not need to be replaced.... especially with a rookie. I would much much rather see us bluff and get some poor schmuck of a gm to give up the farm for a qb. Knight of God, DonOfThemBirds and Herr Doktor

grandcanyonaz 218
It would cost the Falcons way to much more than the chart says. I hope the Falcons get the third pick and trade back. They need more players and they can't get them through FA. TL is going to QB Skid Row (either Jags or Jets). I guess we'll see how good he is.
Ergo Proxy 26,135
Don’t we; like, have to get under the 2021 salary cap as well? I don’t see increasing the cap charge of Ryan by $3.5M as helping get under. We have to get our top Top 51 contracts under the cap by March when the new league year begins. Or whenever the official offseason date hits; even if they were to move it due to Covid. It’s more financially feasible to restructure Matt and kick the can another year than increase his cap charge and move him; making it harder to comply with cap rules to start next league year; in less than 3 months from now. Julio isn’t necessarily as off limits but trading him before June increases his cap charge for 2021 by $200K.
caponine 6,586
If you throw in Matt Ryan or Julio they definitely make that trade, which is possible
falconidae 21,327
Here's a list of QBs taken number 1 overall in the 2000s: Vick, Carr, Palmer, Eli Manning, J Russell, Stafford, Bradford, Newton, Luck, Winston, Goff, [Mayfield, Murray, Burrow]. Only one to win a Super Bowl was Eli, and he was a thoroughly mediocre QB who had a couple of good postseason runs. Leaving out the 3 who got drafted last 3 years, leaves 11 4 of them you wouldn't want- J Russell, Bradford, Goff, Winston. 5 got beat up so bad their careers were cut short- Vick, Carr, Palmer, Newton, Luck Stafford has never won a postseason game. Teams made some serious trades to get some of these players. If you have the number one pick, yeah, go for it. Trading up to get THE QB hasn't worked out in the 2000's Ergo Proxy

Ergo Proxy 26,135
Honestly, and it pains me to say this, if you are desperate for a QB you need to let him fall. I’d rather roll dice with ONE draft pick than destroy all hope of a rookie having a decent team around him in the near future.

Ergo Proxy 26,135
I mean, how often do teams give up their future for a QB at #1 overall? Even our Julio trade was a more logical gambit on an older roster. Either push a playoff roster to SB status (“all in”)...or keep your boatload of picks and hope you nail them & turn the roster over; creating a sustained excellence. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, at least two NFL teams are interested in interviewing Urban Meyer including the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars, however, the Atlanta Falcons are now in the mix though it hasn’t been confirmed. Schefter also reported that Meyer did not dismiss the idea of taking his talents to the next level. Additional sources added that Meyer is expected to make up his mind within a week or two and take interviews from there.
