Atlanta Falcons need to fire Dirk Koetter before Monday morning

Atlanta Falcons should fire offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter immediately.

There are absolutely zero reasons that Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter should remain the franchise’s offensive coordinator moving forward.

While today’s defensive game plan from the Atlanta Falcons was not great, it was good enough to beat the Saints. However, the offensive game plan would not have been good enough to beat West Georgia on the road.

Sure, the players absolutely share some blame but the game plan, play-calling, and situational awareness by Dirk Koetter were bad enough that he should retire from coaching altogether once the Falcons fire him.

After this embarrassing loss by the Atlanta Falcons, Morris had this to say about the Falcons offense –

“Saints’ defense did a good job of keeping the WRs from getting open by playing a mixture of two-man and quarters. He said the Saints also did a good job of playing underneath and sitting on routes.”

In other words, as the offensive coordinator, Dirk Koetter did nothing to put the Falcons in a better position to execute.

He made zero attempts to do anything different today than he had shown on tape. He has made it abundantly clear that his entire game plan revolves around Julio Jones and there is no backup plan and quarterback Matt Ryan has not been given the authority to check out of the stupidity that is called by Koetter.

In year two under Dirk Koetter, the Atlanta Falcons are averaging 381 total yards a game. However, in 10 games, the Falcons have met or exceeded that number in just four games –

Panthers on the road, Lions, Vikings, and at home to start the year against Seattle when they put up a season-high 504 yards. In the other six games, the Falcons have been awful because Koetter has no idea what it takes to be a successful offensive coordinator in the NFL.

There is no doubt that Dirk Koetter will not be retained by the new staff in any capacity but Raheem Morris needs to make that move now and allow the players on the field to be given a chance to play for someone that understands their strengths and weaknesses and will put them in a position to be successful.

Something that Dirk Koetter has failed miserably at over the last 26 games in Atlanta.

Remember, this is the same offensive coordinator that preferred an old Steven Jackson instead of a young Devonta Freeman. It is no coincidence that Freeman became a Pro Bowl player after Koetter left – he clearly has no idea how to spot talent not named Julio Jones.

Even in the midst of a horrible year, the Atlanta Falcons players and fans deserve better than what we are currently getting from Dirk Koetter.

They should have never hired him in the first place.

They needed to fire him in the off-season.

He's the worst OC in the NFL but don't make the same mistake as we did with DQ.  If we kept DQ we would be in line for the 2nd pick (maybe 1st), if we hand off the play calling and someone actually makes targeting Julio the focus of the offense, then we will likely win more games and screw up our draft again.

Koetter works independently of the defense.  DQ could not control him.  We were throwing the ball vs Chi and Dal when all we had to do was run it and punt.  We are a top 5 team from the 20 to 20 over the past five years but...... we are a terrible red zone TD conversion team, which is how you win in the NFL and your OC is a HUGE part of that....especially if you do not have a mobile QB

Dude straight up ignoring 3 of the best offensive games simply because it helps push his narrative.

It is the same bull **** that gets posted here.

So scoring 39 vs Dallas , 34 vs bronco's and 26 vs the bears that would have been 30  were bad because they did not hit the average yardage?

Stupid **** like this is why fans are utterly  stupid.

Are you by any chance related to Dirk?  He has been awful for 4 of 5 years in ATL.

Ryan Sacks Under DK (5 years): 194

Ryan sacks under Mularkey/Sark (6 years): 152

That’s 42 more sacks in 16 fewer games.  Unless you want Ryan dead, Dirk has to go

This!! It's like they totally forgot the problems we had when he was here before. The same bull that is happening now. He's the only OC that I would say is more predictable than Mularkey. I don't understand why we want these duds so bad. Sark struggled, but still wasn't this bad. Sark at least had a good excuse.

He made a run at me in my thread calling for Dirk to be fired.  And, he always displays anger and immaturity.  This is one messed up dude.

Could this be Dirk?  Maybe that is why we never get a gameplan.  He is on here attacking everyone who says anything negative about Dirk instead of developing a gameplan.

Pretty crazy how bad we are the second Julio's out of the line up

The thing is that we aren't though. Yeah, Julio is the goat, but there is more than enough talent behind him in Ridley, Hurst, Gage, Zaccheus, etc. You can score a lot of points with that lineup. And we've done a lot of work on the O-line and it's not perfect but it has unarguably improved. No, the problem is this ancient Air Coryell system we run and the coach who runs it.

To me it was clear that the gameplan was to rely on your superhuman player, Julio Jones, rather than be methodical in the run game and short to intermediate passes over the middle. And then when our superhuman went out, the wind got completely taken out of our sails. The offense looked like it got mentally beat, and then they just slowly loosened up and gave up.

It's bad coaching is what it is. Give this offensive lineup to a LaFleur, a Kingsbury, a Shanahan, a McVay, or a Reid, and it's a top 5 unit.

No 3 games with a filthy loaded offense doesn't make a season. Just like a few flashes in practice didn't make Kerry Meier into a legendary WR. This offense should be averaging over 30 points per game.

I don't know because I honestly haven't watched a lot of Falcons football this year.. the first time in two decades really. I really couldn't stand to be bothered with more of the same crap from our franchise with no apparent attempt at change. Are the high scores you cite with a lack of accompanying yardage indicate our defense getting turnovers or something? We had short fields to work with or something?
