Spts1 6,615
Today was my first time seeing the Fox opening film montage of NFL greats on the Fox NFL pregame show. When I saw them show Bartkowski holding up his number 1 pick jersey from the Falcons when he got drafted, I really liked that. Bart was my favorite falcon up until they drafted Sanders. Vastly underrated in NFL history. He had one of the best arms ever in the game. His career started off horribly because the Falcons didn't put a offensive line in front of him until 1980, the year they were clearly the best team in the NFL and lost that game against Dallas in Fulton County Stadium. If you never saw him play, you missed a great quarterback. Bart! I DEFINITELY don't remember him scrambling and holding the ball like Vick while scrambling, but HERE he is, Vick before Vick... Bart reminded of my FIRST favorite quarterback, Joe Namath, in how he dropped back to pass and his mannerisms... Steve Bartkowski is a former American football quarterback in the NFL….who played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1975 – 1985….and the Los Angeles Rams in 1986….for Steve Bartkowski was chosen with the first overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft….ahead of Walter Payton…. by the Atlanta Falcons….and was selected by the The Sporting News as the NFL Rookie of the Year. He was the first client of sports agent Leigh Steinberg….for Bartkowski is one of ten quarterbacks in NFL history who have achieved consecutive 30-touchdown passing seasons (1980 and 1981) at least one time in their career….and was also selected to the Pro Bowl after both the 1980 and 1981 seasons….while being selected 2nd Team All-NFC following the 1980 campaign….then he led the NFL in passing in 1983 with a passer rating of 97.6….. as he set the record for consecutive games with at least three touchdown passes at home with five…. which he established over the 1980 and 1981 seasons…..which was a record that was held until the 2004 season….when it was surpassed by Peyton Manning. Alfred Jackson was the fortunate receiver to catch the last second….last play Hail Mary pass from Atlanta QB Steve Bartkowski in the New Orleans Superdome of this 1978 NFL’s greatest plays of the decade play as seen in this video herewith. Alfred Jackson played 7 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons with Bartkowski as his QB from 1978 to 1984. https://imasportsphile.com/nfl-1978-greatest-plays-bartkowski-to-jackson-on-last-play-of-game-with-atlanta-vs-new-orleans/ Tim Mazetti, AUTiger7222, PokerSteve and 5 others 6
PokerSteve 27,216
Bart gave Falcon fans many unforgettable moments. I wish we'd had a better OL because he likely would've gotten this team a Lombardi in his prime. putnam6, Tim Mazetti, WhenFalconsWin and 3 others

marvinthemartian 5,070
Bart was very underrated. And those uniforms are some of the best in the modern era of the NFL. Cant understand why we never even sniff at wearing them now. Ezekiel 25:17, Barnabus_D, NCFalconfan and 6 others 5

Also seeing any of the Falcons old jerseys makes me more aware of just how awful the new jerseys are. Even jerseys I didn't particularly like (Glanville all black/Raider wanna be) had a depth of color/tone I could appreciate. The new jerseys look like someone bought the cheapest paint they could find on sale and just used those on the jerseys. supercollider

Godzilla1985 6,656
He was my favorite Falcon for years. I don’t know if any of you Gen Xers r meber but you could collect Coke bottle or Coke caps and get this gray t-shirt that had 10 and Bartkowski on the back. One of my friends is 1st cousin to Sandy Steve’s wife. She actually lived with them for a while when she was younger. He gave me a lot of personal things that Steve gave his Dad when his Dad pastes away. Tim Mazetti

marvinthemartian 5,070
My guess is that the reason we never wear those old red jerseys and gray pants with red helmets is because it would quickly become obvious to a lot of people what a missed opportunity and colossal mistake we made with our new unis. Our uniforms have gone from bad (2003) to worse (2020) NCFalconfan and supercollider

None taken but thank you. You may be right. I can’t speak for anyone else but as for me personally, I just don’t like them. I had hoped they would grow on me by now but they haven’t. I just don’t like the monochrome scheme. All black or all white is just too much. Mix and match and it might be a little better. supercollider
