Even with his int and no td’s, I was impressed with his play tonight

Didn't start watching until the 4th quarter but looking at the numbers, aside from the interception (which I didn't see) he posted good numbers. Averaged nearly 10 yards per attempt. Good completion percentage while doing it too.

Don't forget the 28 yards rushing, guy was flying around all over the field :rain:

Ryan played well today, some good scrambles as well.

I think I may have been at the last one. Was it against the Titans in Nashville?

No. He threw a TD pass to Jacob Tamme to win that one at the end.

Just saw a stat on ESPN, tonight is the Falcons first win in which Matt Ryan had no TD passes since 2015. If that doesn't tell you how little help Matt Ryan gets on a weekly/yearly basis nothing will.

And there you have it.  Can’t remember more than a handful of games we have won when Ryan plays poorly

1) He rushed for a TD

2) He could not make many long throws in the 2nd half when the rain started to come down hard

3) He is not obsessed with padding his own stats like other QB's

4) The Panthers actually had the 10th best passing defense coming into the game (rushing not so good)

When you make 30 mil, there is not enough to go around on defense so that you can play like a game manager anymore and expect to win.

Max Kellerman said it best when arguing about Wentz, when you give a QB a large contract its because you believe he is talented enough to lift your team and win even when they shouldn't. Because taking up that much cap means there will be holes elsewhere. But your franchise QB is supposed to be good enough to offset them, which is why you pay 1 man 1/7 of the salary cap with 52 other slots to fill.
So yes, if you pay a man with the expectation he will produce like the MVP level guy he was, and he has a game like an average Joe, its a tall ask for your budget conscious defense to bail you out. Football is football. But you didn't wake up with a trash defense out of nowhere, you get what you pay for in this league. We paid for an elite, high-scoring offense full of high draft picks and superstars.

With all that in mind there are still no excuses for how bad the defense has been. Ryan hasn't needed a great defense. He just needs something better than a swinging door. That's really not a big ask.

People say this and it's the dumbest ******* argument in sports!! What about all the other elite QBs with elite contracts that actually have good defenses? Oh wait, that doesn't fit the agenda.
