At the end of the day, whether we scored on the TD OR NOT the defense still should have earned their paycheck and should have been able to hold up with barely a minute left with no Timeouts!

This is basically Koetter throwing Raheem under the bus.

I’m confused. Who is calling the plays?

Is he saying Raheem over ruled the called and made Todd Gurley run the ball ?  Koetter may have called for the knee and Radio Raheem called for the Gurley run

If this is true no wonder why we suck. We kept 5 washed up HC on the same team along with all the washed up 1st round picks

With that logic the offense should have converted on that 4th down attempt. Defense played well up to that point. Offense and coaching left points on the field.

There's a reason why there's a game winning drive stat. Though I completely agree with you, you can look at this 2 ways. D should have held up but Lions offense gets paid to score points also.

Scoring 22pts is the equivalent of the 26th ranked offense in the league right now. Giving up 23 would be the equivalent of 11th.

Now keep in mind had the offense simply done a kneel 3 times and kicked the FG we win 17-16. Guess how many teams give up 16 or less per game? 0.

Now guess how many teams average scoring only 17 or less? 1, the Only team without a win the Jets.

Our offense sucked all game against a pedestrian defense. Our defense did its job until we decided to go full Falcon scoring a TD for no reason. Then we sent in the soft zones and that was all she wrote.

Just more proof this whole organization needs a reset or cleansing. Mr. Predictable Koetter throwing Raheem to the Lions. The total failure of the team on the field. Seems like it could be a very toxic environment even after Quinn has departed.

Yeah he should have just kept his mouth shut and work on scheming the panthers.

I was talking about the Lions offense. Defense gets paid to keep opposing offenses from scoring. Offense gets paid to score. One has to get the job done...and the Lions offense did. The Lions are not that good... but we don't have a no fly zone defense either.

Did he really say that? I see the Twitter post from D-Led but do we have a real quote or audio? This is basically him throwing Raheem under the bus. There is definitely a need to demolish the coaching staff foundation and start a brand new one also with a new GM who can evaluate the players we have now.

If Koetter is undermining Raheem he needs to go immediately.

Yeah, when your defense has the advantage in that situation of time and knowing they MUST get a TD, it should tilt in their favor.

They didn’t even need a full stop, they just needed to make the Lions take too long to score at that point.

Agreed...and that's what I just don't get...prevent the long throws that eat up yardage and keep them in bounds. Lions made it look so easy to drive n score.

As I said in another thread, running the ball was the right call. Matt specifically, repeatedly, told Gurley NOT TO SCORE, which more than likely means Raheem made that very clear in the huddle. Gurley did it anyway. And for those saying ish like "Gurley is paid to score TDs," NO, Gurley is paid TO HELP THE TEAM WIN GAMES.

I never liked Koetter as OC, and if he really made that statement on the record, he can kick rocks ASAP.

I don't understand. Hindsight says you take the knee. Most people have been saying we should have. Personally I think running it is fine if executed properly. Why does this fact equate to him needing to be out of the league?

Nah, foresight says you take the knee. Hindsight shows why that's the case.
