Might have been a gamble that teams wouldn’t claim a guy with his potential injury issues. AUTiger7222

I understand - we were never going to get someone with that kind of contract, but AA is going to have to do more if we are going to find ourselves trying to make a deep run with the way some of our competitors have stocked up. As much as we want to lay this at AA's feet the issue is ownership. AA only has so much money to spend. The Dodgers have an unlimited amount of money to spend. The Dodgers TV deal is also massive compared to the Braves being stuck with one of the worst TV deals ever. The end result is a team that can have a $250M plus payroll versus one that can't. Unknøwn
The Braves had steadily increased payroll every year at Truist. The pandemic really halted all of that. Having no fans and losses in revenue from The Battery really hurt because then Liberty pumped the brakes on spending. Unfortunately we dont have the type of TV deal a team like LA can get. Hopefully fans can return this year and next winter the payroll can jump back up.

At this point we should be thrilled we even were able to bring Ozuna back with a lengthy Freeman extension almost certainly coming soon. My big ? is what do we do for bullpen, do we bring back Greene and/or Melancon. I certainly hope we do. Gambling that Carl Edwards returns to Cubs form when he was a pretty good setup guy seems very risky especially since Greene really rounded into form last year and Melancon was dominant as well. Still shocked we re-signed Luke and didn't put that towards one of the above guys.

They can cut him during Spring Training for little-to-no cost if he isn’t performing.

Smith and Minter both have closer experience and Martin is a veteran who's been around and been very good for the Braves. Jacob Webb has done nothing but impress and he'll be given a chance to move into a more prominent role. We picked up Victor Arano from the Phillies and I still can't believe they cut him loose. This is a kid that in parts of 3 MLB seasons turned in a 2.65 ERA, 3.20 FIP, and a 1.138 WHIP in 74 2/3 IP. In other words, he's been really really good and only just now turned 26 years old. Tyler Matzek is still down there too. Ynoa could be a good bullpen option too. I'd like to bring in another veteran arm like Greene or someone but we've got some good arms down there and we've taken a couple of fliers on guys like Carl Edwards Jr. and Nate Jones in hopes they can return to form. If they do then I'm not worried about the bullpen. I'm worried about the bench. Braves are 1 injury away from complete disaster offensively. Early in his career with the Indians he was a really good hitter but I have no idea what happened to him in recent years. But he's a veteran with playoff experience and has infield/outfield experience. I wanted Dietrich but I can live with Kipnis.
