Why is Rich McKay still here?

Recommended Posts

There were several decisions made after 2016 that made me question the entire front office and given our structure, I doubt it was only DQ and TD.

Whose idea was it to bring back Koetter?

Whose idea was it to bring in those specialist coaches like Knapp? These guys had no connection to DQ prior and TD is focused on the roster.

The entire front office failed and should be cleaned

I don't think AB is ever going to be capable of not meddling, and he knows McKay is reliable in facilitating this. I agree that a total culture change is needed, and that's going to be pretty unlikely with McKay. Our next GM will probably be the Bucs' current RB coach or something.

I think Ruston Webster might be our next GM. And he was bad in TN. But that’s McKay’s boy. Webster the GM and Morris the HC.

If AB doesn’t wake up you may be correct.  And thus the mediocrity continues.....kinda funny.....”who would listen to a bunch of nuts on a msg board??”......yet.....our owner might begin to understand a few things about how  and why things went so wrong if he’d get in a quiet room where rich can’t screen his access and consider the opinions of just a few of the lowly riff raff who have no agenda except Falcons winning!!!  At least go talk candidly w folks around the league for heavens sake!!  Rich is a “comfort hire” man.   Kind of the hiring equivalent to a guy who’d “rather eat his pizza and hamburgers” and never quite get in shape no matter how hard he trains instead of making the hard choices to “eat proteins, cut sugars totally etc”......What an indictment on the “braintrust” at FB.......SMH

Some of you just bltch to bltch.

Ha!!  This is very true but to fully understand this thread let’s all remember that many on this board were begging for AB and co to relieve TD, DQ and yes Rich McKay (RM) both before and after 1-7 became 6-2 and this owner and many on here became blind to the reality that this coaching staff, players and exec leadership was substandard at best.  So, what you see here is this same group of “advisors:-)” telling this same owner and anyone else who’ll listen exactly what’s gonna happen if he doesn’t redeploy RMs area of influence.  This org will hire an “RM hire” (weak personality, wont rock boat, takes orders and toes Corp line very well) and we will continue to be watching sub standard, weak football on Sunday’s!!!  In fact, I’ll go on record as guaranteeing this and be right here to eat all the crow y’all wanna feed me😁

A lot of complaining about McKay with no concrete proof that he had any real hand in the decision making for keeping TD, Quinn or drafting players. 🤣🤣🤣

End of the day he handles so many other aspects of the Falcons business for Blank. I highly doubt he is fired and I’m not sure he should be.

I think the Florio piece on McKay nailed it - how has he escaped accountability - again? Replaced as GM after 2007, reinserted into football ops recently, a bizarre structure where a new GM would have to “report” to Rich McKay - which is weird and especially so given McKay’s, uh, track record.

The whole thing smacks of cronyism and incompetence that results from what Jeff Schultz calls a lack of diversity of thought. Looks like more of the same crap and we have to accept that this is the way AB prefers it - and he really doesn’t know or even want to know any other way that might be more successful. Sorry, just calling it as I see it. Feel free to disagree.

One of my best friends is die hard Titans fan and said Webster is one of the worst GM's he's ever seen.

If McKay goes "buddy network" on this hire, we'll be stuck in mediocrity until he's gone. All of these Tampa scrubs need cleansed from the Atlanta organization.

Here's Webster's draft history as GM
