This was a tough day for mid-grade outfielders. All these guys were non-tendered:

David Dahl
Adam Duvall
Eddie Rosario
Kyle Schwarber
Albert Almora
Delino DeShields
Brian Goodwin
Scott Heineman
Erick Mejia
Bubba Starling
Ben Gamel
Nomar Mazara
Tyler Naquin
Jose Martinez

These are added to a pool that already had Jorge Bonifacio, Jarrod Dyson, Adam Eaton, Brett Gardner, Matt Joyce, Nick Markakis, Cameron Maybin, Josh Reddick, Hunter Renfroe, and Steve Sousa.

Arrieta
Santana
Hunter
Neshek
Robertson
Ramos
McCutchen
Harper
Wheeler

$709.2M in guarantees handed out in three off-seasons. There's stupid money, and then there's the Philadelphia Phillies. They never properly concluded their rebuild, tried to rush it with free agency and trades. Think they'd like JP Crawford, Jorge Alfaro, and Sixto Sanchez back now?

This is exactly what several people pushed for the Braves to do. They wanted the Braves to send stupid money without a plan to get better. But Coppy and now AA have done a wonderful job with the rebuild and now we've got 3 straight division titles and 1 win away from the World Series to show for it with the best yet to come.

Nice haul for the Rangers for 1 year of Lynn.

Given that Lynn's only earning $8 million a year, less than what we're paying for Smyly, I like the deal a lot more for them during a time of economic uncertainty.

I'm reminded of when Philly traded J.A. Happ and another player for Roy Oswalt. Dunning looks like a moderate rotation guy who turns 26 in a few days. Sure, there's risk, but Lynn would/should have gotten a lot more at the trade deadline. They screwed up by waiting.

It's interesting that the Rangers offloaded Lynn literally the day after hiring the new GM.

I didn't mean to imply it was a bad trade for Chicago. Lynn is a good pick up for a team that wants to make some noise next season.

Yeah, I can't help but wonder what kind of financial restrictions he was given. It's strange in that he allegedly could have had the Mets job, and they've got money now.
