Who is worst coach in Falcons history?

Recommended Posts

Dan Henning? Marion Campbell? Dan Quinn?

1. Bobby Petrino- A true coward.

2. Jim Hanifan- 0 winning percentage 0-4

3. Marion Campbell- 11-32 Record and drunk half the time

4. Dan Henning- 22-41- This guy would have been best friends with McKay. Always telling everyone how smart he was and not winning anything

5. June Jones- 19-29 Record The original choker. Coached the Houston Oilers in their monumental collapse against Bills in playoffs. Was tagged as choke of all NFL history until Dan Quinn claimed title.

6. Jim Mora- 26-22 Record Mora lost all control of team after Art Blank rolled Vick out onto turf in wheelchair. Mora couldnt control team because they would go right to owner with complaints. Mora was undisciplined but we will never know if he was undermined by Blank. .500 coach non the less.

7. Dan Quinn- 43-37 Record but has been worthless since Shannihan split town. The ultimate rah rah do boy. King of the choke. Knows nothing about in game adjustments and his defenses turn into a pumpkin once Falcons get lead of 21 points or more. A position coach not a head coach.

8. Jerry Glanville- 27-37 Record.  He had a losing record but the Falcons looked good doing it. 2 Legit to Quit and Deion and the Black Uniforms all came about because of Glanville.

9.  Leeman Bennet- 46-41 Record. Very underrated coach, had the franchise on the cusp of consistancy until Smith family got sold a bag of bull on Henning.

10. Dan Reeves- 49-59 Record- Brought respect to what was known in NFL circles as a joke NFL franchise. Drafted Vick and who knows what would have been had Blank not been sold a bag of bull by McKay and bounced Reeves. Vick was under control with Reeves and played his best football, with Mora it all fell apart.

11. Mike Smith- 66-46 By far the most consistant of all the Falcons coaches. Never lost back to back games. Another fairly good coach bounced by a owner in a knee jerk reaction becasue he listened to a Team President in McKay who has never played football.

Bobby Petrino - I don't care what his record was. He was a pure coward

There's a lot of futility in that list. At least Marion Campbell was smart enough to drink. I will say Quinn because has taken this team back near the bad 80's team. The Super Bowl loss is a big part.

This is like a kid in the candy trying to decide what piece of candy they would like. So many to choose from and all would be good choices.

June Jones blew a 35-3 lead.

Jim Mora was awful. Those teams were a reliable WR away from being SB Contenders every year and instead we watched back to collapses.

6-2 to 8-8. Losing to the sorry Packers as Samkon Gado destroyed us for 60 minutes.

Then we go 5-2 the next year...Huge wins vs the Steelers and Bengals. Only to turn around and lose to the Lions and Browns and finish 7-9.

Could not stand Mora

Records aside, I was very familiar with the organization while Henning was here and I don't know if he was the worst, but there certainly hasn't been a Falcons coach any worse than him.

I give Campbell a break because while he was lousy as a HC, it was obvious he really took the job more as a favor to the Clampetts (twice) than any other reason.

Agree completely.  A liar and a quitter that couldn't handle one full season in the NFL.  When you take your suck beyond wins and losses and expand it to your total lack of character....you're number 1 Petrino.

Living near Louisville what's been funny is, while he finished his last season at U of L, he quit there too.  He quit having recruiting meetings, quit visiting local schools, hardly anyone had his phone number and many players didn't even know where his office was.  Dude had to hire relatives to fill his staff because nobody wanted to work for him.

I don't know about worst.  Dispicable is easier.  Most dispicable:

1.  This is so easy.  You know who you despise the most.  I don't think another NFL Head Coach has ever displayed the unethical, immoral, disrespectable behavour of Bobby Petrino.

2.  Jim Mora Jr..  He was particularly annoying to me because of the way he reminded me of the phony people I worked with.  I was an Internet consultant and went to large customers to build new infrastructures for them.  What I told customers in meetings became reality after months or years of hard dedicated work.  Invariably, others showed up at planning meetings and shot their mouths off about possibilities that seemed unrealistic.  They were never around when the hard work started.  I was there when the customer asked about the grandiose promises they heard at those meetings.  Those who made the promises were not on-site, unavailable via phone, unavailable via email, unavailable.  I met so many of them that I became capable of spotting a phony very quickly.  Mora is a phony.  There is nothing of substance in his being.  Worst of all, that clever grin on his face when spouting nonsense told me he always thought he was the smartest guy in the room.

3.  June Jones.  I always disrespected June.  When Glanville vacated the HC spot, I think June went to the brass and explained that he was one of the few experienced coaches around that knew the West Coast Offense.  And, that was true.  He looked like a shoe-in.  He was just the smell that comes from inside the shoe.  June knew he could not coach an NFL team.  When he displayed his shouting match with Jeff George I knew he was not in control of the team and never had been.  I don't think June ever tried to be the Falcons HC.  He just showed up for the paycheck.

4.  I think Swamp Fox is next.  He may have been a good guy, but he always looked bewildered on the sideline.  You know how I feel about phonies at this point, but Marion should have worked on his demeanor enough so that everyone would not know he did not know what was happening.

Where do we put Emmitt Thomas - guy had to take over for Petrino (undoubtedly our worst) and that mess, manages to go 1-2, all while knowing he was just a meaningless guy to be replaced.  Or, was this like some kind of fantasy camp as a Head Coach for him (although he went to KC as a DB coach for a few years after)?

Man, hands down, no contest, Bobby Petrino.   Completely worthless.

There is a lot of crap to tie for 2nd place, but come on, Bobby Petrino was the absolute worst.  He never, ever, had the team and alienated absolutely everyone before taking the cowards way out and leaving a freakin' FORM LETTER to announce his resignation without even finishing a season.

Norb Hecker. Seriously, with a name like that, and it IS spelled correctly, how could Rankin Smith have possibly thought he was the best man to start out the franchise with?

Because Vincenzo Lombardi turned Smith down after considering taking the job.

I didn't even consider that lousy a$$wipe, I guess because I don't even acknowledge that he ever really was here.  The jerkoff.

Dude is a hall of famer and besides getting mud-womped by TB (division champs) in a short week (took over on Wednesday), he took Arizona (8-8 record) to OT and beat the Seahawks ( finished 9-7) in the finale.

One of the finer runs in Falcon coaching history.

I don't think June Jones was the OC for the Oilers at that time. If I remember correctly, he was OC for the Falcons with Glanville, running the run-and-shoot.

And, Dan Quinn is the worst because he's an absolute fraud as some kind of defense specialist.

You can't lay Smitty's firing on McKay alone.  Blank was equally complicit with a new stadium coming on line and a desperate need boost fan enthusiasm to sell PSLs.  And of course, Dimitroff was there, handing out knives and showing them a Smitty-shaped, backside anatomical chart.

There's a ton of bias in this list. Lot of excuses for Smitty and Mora in your descriptions
