Addressing the Ryan Slander

Recommended Posts

Why do you hate the man so much? Yes we are 0-3 on the season but would I say that Ryan is the problem for it? No. Yes he was had a bad game yesterday. Lets be real, game time management and defense has been the issue plaguing this team for years. But lets blame Ryan for all our problems. Defense is giving up an average of 30 points a game. They cant stop anyone.  Ever since Ryan got drafted he gets hated on every week of the season. Ryan has a good game in a loss oh its his fault the defense gave up 30 points. Yes you can draft a Lawrence or Fields but it doesnt guarantee they will be any more successful than Ryan at the helm. Until things change with the game management and defense quits giving up the big leads. We will repeat history over and over again. Ryan has his parts in the loss too but he is far from the main problem.

However you feel about Ryan, and I will say I think he's the best QB the Falcons have ever had, and however you feel about dumb*** Dirk Koetter throwing the ball over and over instead of just running

People that say otherwise are just scarred badly from these losses and wanna blame him for some reason because he was a part of the team that loss so badly. The man can't play defense too or at this point id ask him too

However you feel about Ryan, and I will say I think he's the best QB the Falcons have ever had, and however you feel about dumb*** Dirk Koetter throwing the ball over and over instead of just running it to seal the game away - he had multiple chances to make plays yesterday to drive that nail into the Bears coffin. Ditto vs the Cowboys. FFS, he had four drives where he kept getting the chance to pass it and we went 3 and out three times before he threw an INT that last drive.

Ryan isn't the biggest problem with this team. But like everyone else on it, he looks absolutely hopeless, and he isn't making plays when it matters. They've given up. It sucks, but this really could be the end of an era, depending what the next coach decides. So much of football is mental, and it absolutely feels like this team is worried that blowing leads and being losers is who they are. That could all be fixed by canning Quinn. Or it could take completely blowing up the roster. Maybe it's just not in the cards for the Falcons period - only time will tell. But Ryan is still complicit in these losses, regardless of what anyone tries to say to excuse him. You count on QBs to make plays when it counts. They're the face of the team. He didn't.

Our special teams deserve a shout out as well. They are horrible. After yesterday Poo, I mean Koo left a sour taste in my mouth.

When you lose games there are no sacred cows. Ryan has been playing good enough to win, although he is 36 and that era is about to come to a close. We need to start thinking about the QB of the future and the coach of the future. A bigger problem right now is our kicking game. Young way off Koe has been terrible, and now is the time  to find a better Kicker on waiver wire. We need a kicker who can keep his FG lined up straight and not towards the goal posts.

The Falcons are 14-21 their last 35 games, 53-62 since 2013.

Is that the way we’re defining success in these parts now?

No QB in the game would be able to overcome what this team is dealing with. Not Mahomes. Not Wilson. Not Jackson. Not Rodgers. Not even prime Brady, Brees or Peyton Manning. Great players can't overcome bad coaching. It's that simple

Ryan definitely came up short yesterday; even if the Falcons were dumb to abandon the run.

The Falcons simply don’t seem to believe in running clock later in game to protect a lead or keep defense off the field. And, it’s to a fault and IMO the bigger issue.

There was a mixed bag of reasons the pass game failed and was struggling the last several drives:

it’s the Bears Defense

Down 2 of 3 best receivers; 2 UDFA getting their snaps

Run game had 150 yards nearly and they stopped running with 16 point lead

Dirk didn’t even try to pretend to run in run heavy packages and get their team to sell out. We just wanted to go wide up multiple scores in the last Quarter.

Ryan and the pass game came up short; from some bad passes (overthrow a shot, INT on last drive) and some bad supporting cast play (OZ doesn’t run out another shot, Hill drops a critical 3rd down conversion that would have been first down inside their 40...)

That said:

It’s WAY too easy for teams to move the ball & score at will; especially when it matters defending a lead.

But ya, finally a legit bad game from Ryan this year. People were complaining before so it’s not Surprising they care about feeling validated; even if he is discredited at any apparent bad play even in his very good games.

We could all talk about the primary issues with this team; coaching and defense and a run game (which we abandoned yesterday despite having a lead and finally doing well on the ground)...

But, Nah, let’s keep this dumb circle jerk about Ryan going.

He isn’t moving for a couple years at best; even if a new regime comes in and wants to move on.

It’s also pretty bad of a take to believe a good coach can’t take this team far on its offense alone if the defense merely improves slightly.

Ryan is not the ultimate problem with this team, but there are a lot of times that drives stall out or we kick a fieldgoal rather than getting a touchdown that come back to haunt us.  Ryan does need to accept some blame for that along with Koetter.  Until we field a competent defense our offense will have very little margin for error.

On cue, the Ryan post...

LOOK. This is SPORTS.  This dude actually worried about folks criticizing a SPORTS figure.  How do you slander a SPORTS figure?  This is ENTERTAINMENT.   No wonder sports franchises are soo expensive to purchase. Its like automatic money because of THIS kind of stuff right here...

The Falcons have deeper roster issues other than Matt Ryan. The offense is putting up points. They do stall too often, but points on the board near 30+ every game should be enough.

We were at 30 yesterday vs the Bears D if the Kicker doesn’t miss. Still could’ve ran down the clock more in the 3rd or shown more run if wanting to pass but our coaches don’t really know how to facilitate help for what they want to do. They just run vanilla; even if running UDFA WRs and going away from what was working...

Speaking of Rw. Did you see that 5 TD performance vs the Cows?

Yes the team has injuries on both sides of the ball but mainly defense but we cant keep using that as an excuse. Yes Ryan needs to take control and tell Dirk Im running the ball here. Quinn needed to step up and override the OC play calling. There is no reason we should be passing the ball with a big lead.

On cue youre here.. Im just explaining that Ryan is not the MAIN problem with this team and what is going wrong. Defense, bad clock management and special teams.

Via this rationale, how did 2016 happen?  Quinn turned into a bad coach since then?
