Tribal Chief
McGary took his lumps and was perfectly schemed against from opposing DC’s. No excuses for Matthews. g-dawg
McGary could be the key to the entire offiense - he simply has to get better in pass pro. Last year he was a rook so we will cut him some slack - this year he has to produce in pass pro. takeitdown
The OL was a huge part of the reason we weren't good last year. We spent 12M/yearly and our 1st through 3rd picks on OL...and the OL sucked. If the OL was going to be that bad, we could have kept what we had and spent 12M + 3 picks on D and our D would have been way better than it was. I'm hoping this year at least the OL draft picks pay dividends. A good OL vs bad is the difference between a top level offense and a mediocre one for us. OL has to do better. Simple as that. We really need to reap the benefit of drafting two OL. People talk a lot about how drafting the wrong QB can set your team back for several years, but doubling down in the first round on the wrong offensive linemen can be just as detrimental. They both need to play like first rounders in year #2. trubirdfan4life, FalconFanSince1970 and PokerSteve
Macintez
Matthews plays the game with no soul. You can have all the technique and he’s been consistent but I hate how Matthews has never played towards an elite level even when we had Kyle Shanahan. I’m happy we have him but it just seemed like he plateaued at a level of starter and barely serviceable.

He was just a rookie and they took advantage. He knows now what to expect and will obviously get better. He isn't a world beater, but he play pretty well at times, he just needs to become more consistent. FalconsIn2012
I suspect we see a pretty nice jump from the OL this year. If we run the ball more, we should be a top 12 unit rugger8, PokerSteve, Atl Falcon and 2 others

What you can blame the OC for is not understanding his personnel. McGary struggled with speed edge rushers in college. We knew it would take time for him. So why not help him with a 6th OL? More TE support on the edge. But throwing 50 times and leaving McGary on an island was setting him up for failure IMO PokerSteve, kiwifalcon, HouseofEuphoria and 2 others

caponine
I dont give a sht about McGrary anymore, Matthews should know better. This board defends him all the time yet he is has been an average OT. A good player but not that type of player. He gets beat way too much and decides to hold. He's not really that good and hasnt really lived up to the 5th pick cb5639, Dirtybird3, Atl Falcon and 1 other
red falcon
Coming out the analysts said he wasn't great at pass blocking but I didn't think it would have been as bad as it was. Hes a run blocker, he can improve but both ends on teams rush the passer now. Its not like it was back in the day. He needs chips, protection to slide his way or matt to get rid of the ball. red falcon
I always wanted a line that took the fight to the defensive line on pass plays. Gono is the only one that does that and gets no playing time.
red falcon
Should have just let Gono play tackle, or let him play for Wes last year if they knew they werent keeping him. Sigh. Atl Falcon, FalconFanSince1970 and PokerSteve

In the kid's defense, he was matched up against every single one of the best DE's in the league week in and week out. I don't have to post the list of names, you know the deal. He did pretty well as a rookie, all considered, but also looked much better after Lindstrom played next to him and he had 12 games under his belt. I think those guys are gonna be a force together. Actually make a commitment to running the football even when we are behind. Even better when we are behind in the down move the pocket instead of straight dropping him. I mean this could also help. But if he continues this pass heavy straight dropping stuff our Olineman will always be under the gun. FalconsIn2012
