The secondary and DL are the key to a successful season

Recommended Posts

We are young at CB, but we have vets at S. We have a nice DE rotation with Fowler,Takk,Harris,Bailey, and Comisky as that DE/DT type on paper. Grady and hopefully Davidson collapse the pocket from inside. We are unproven yet athletic and the POTENTIAL is endless. The DL and secondary work together, but this year we are gonna need 45+ sacks to help ease our young CB along.

Im not worried about Terrill,Oliver,or Sheffield from a athletic standpoint, its the mental. Facing Brady and Brees 2x, A.Rod,Mahomes, and Dak will probably be the toughest games for them. Winning all 7 of those matchups would be nice, but the DL/pass rush is gonna have to do it. Thoughts?

The OC is the key for me if he can get the team playing in front and be able to shut games out with a sound efficient running game the defense will be a different animal.

The teams an offensively built team this is the side of the ball that has to keep us in front. For me defense isn’t the key offense has always been.

I dont they yall. The collection we have on offense should produce. Year 2 in the scheme for certain players like Lindstrom,McGary and Ridley. A healthy Ito is another dual threat as is Gurley. If we can sack the QB and keep this young secondary off the field and our offense the ball back we will be fine.

You left out Means, wouldn't do that if I were you.

This is in conjunction with those who mentioned the O-line, but I feel if Todd Gurley is healthy and stays that way throughout the season he will be key.  It's been a while since we've had a consistent run game that can sustain drives, move the chains, and get in the endzone even when teams know its coming

With how the game is officiated now, I would actually double the emphasis on pass rush and half it on the secondary.

With a decent pass rush, solid, fundamentally sound CBs can look like All-Pros... without it, we could have Prime, Revis, Earl Thomas and Berry back there and still get torched... especially in our division.

All recent studies prove you should do the exact opposite of what you just explained. However, both are important.

I’m not seeing it. Maybe next year when the young CB’s get more experience. Grady and to an extent Fowler are the only ones that will scar opposing offenses. Our d line outside of that is inexperienced or just not that impactful.

x2.  I don't think our defense will be BAD, but average.  If we could average closer to 22 points scored against us per game (instead of 25, like last year) we'll win more games than we lose.

Marlon Davidson might get some too....

Looking good.

If one position can be pointed out for being most important to the overall success of this team, I'd lay money that it's interior DL. The rest of the D will play as well as the tackles play.

Do you mean game plan for? How about Debo?
