The Truth about Takk Mckinley

Lots did AS SOON as he was drafted. It was inevitable. The only part I didn't foresee was this weird obsession with trying to "read the tea leaves" and vilifying his social media posts. Flat out lying and creating narratives out of thin air. It's maddening.

People don’t like athletes on twitter as it is. The only thing that forgives it is the player is a star. Look at Roddy. He was very active on Twitter when he played but because he was so good, people still loved him.

Its like I said yesterday, I wouldn’t mind Takk’s mouth if he was actually a good player. He needs to be more humble. When he says crap like “guaranteed 10 sacks this year”, fine. Then go do it!

I don’t know if I agree 100%. I think he plays with passion and heart. The problem is that he is still RAW, and he shouldn’t be this far into his career. I wish someone in the locker room would check him for his antics, but I understand they’re all grown men and the climate of sports isn’t the same these days.

Well, regardless of how well he plays or how bad he is at  times.. I've never been more shocked  when  TD drafted him.. I saw myself so so many other DEs that were much better in his draft..  Yeap,, that was the most shocking first round pick since I've been a Draftnut. I still think we could have a much better pass rusher than him.. AAMOF,, there is proof of that with the DEs that were drafted after him.... Biggest shocking moment of my Draft nut life.. ,, which is about 40 years of following the Falcons and their drafts...  Good thing is I think they learned a good lesson on how to draft DEs from that move...

This year is his last chance to prove everyone wrong in ATL, for sure.

True.  Even if he has a tremendous season, I don't see the Falcons re-signing him.  Under the best of circumstances, he has a great year, moves to another team in free agency, and the Falcons get a future 3rd rounder in compensation.

I think what you're describing is a more natural. I can totally understand people wanting athletes to cash the checks their mouths write. I have no problem with that. What I'm talking about is how people have flat out lied, and vilified the man. Just made up entire narratives, called his behavior "street behavior" and so on and so forth. THAT'S incredibly weird to me.

Is it though? People who are polarizing are going to be talked about in that nature. Manziel, Mayfield, TO, etc. Owens did a lot of stupid stuff...but it got to the point where every single thing he said and did was completely taken out of proportion from talking heads

Takk has god given abilities and ideal size for a pass rusher.  The problem with Takk is that if everything is not perfect for him, he shuts down.  His constant twitter rants and making fun of the team that pays him is pretty ridiculous.  I heard someone say, he can have a Shaq Barrett type of season.  Barrett has one thing that Takk doesn't have, is  heart and passion for the game.

Heart and passion have never been a problem for Takk, its his mental off field issues that cause him problems. Now we know though thanks to this post he will have 10+ sacks

You have a point there...

Agreed, all he has shown thus far, sad to say, has been pretty average.. Average is fine, but don't talk like you are a HOF type of player.

Hes a decent player but a terrible professional.

But how’s he a “terrible professional”? Because he plays with fans heads on Twitter?

And that’s the thing,  you don’t have to be a professional as a defensive player. Just be a good player. Look at guys like Warren Sapp or Richard Sherman.

Takk sure has not lived up to the big talk he gave on the night he was drafted. The profanity laced tirade while holding that jumbo sized pic of his grandma was a red flag from the beginning. I’m sure grandma would have been proud.

That's not fair man. Nothing he said or did on draft night has anything to do with his lackluster career here. We the fans are more so guilty for believing the hype. Takk can play the game of football at high level, he has shoulder issues and still inconsistent WHEN on the field. That's why his option was wisely declined. Off field/mental issues could have a lot to do with it too.

100%. He acts like a child on social media. Combine that with the army of Instagram thots he follows and it’s pretty obvious he lacks focus.

Yup. He’s immature and now he’s high maintenance. Can’t imagine he’s well liked in the locker room either. I remember a play from 2018 when Takk had a really indisciplined personal foul call on a third down. I watched Grady Jarrett look at him and shake his head for a few seconds. It spoke volumes.

Sapp and Sherman love the game and work hard as **** on their craft to be the best at their position. That's professionalism.

Takk was literally proud on social media for spending his entire offseason at a fried chicken joint and coming in looking soft.

Being a professional doesn't mean you have to be a nice guy. Just play your part for the team that drafted and pays you.

Sapp and Sherman have plenty of unprofessional, immature moments in their careers.

You kinda just proved my point to @Bunchy Carter that being good results in forgiveness for your behavior

Well, he's got a lot to prove this year. The circumstances are as good as they could be with the additions made.

I mean, it's pro sports. And what matters most in a professional sport is production on the field. Sapp and Sherman were HoF players on the field.

Takk is seriously underwhelming on the field. I can accept that because of injury or circumstances, but dont get on social media afterwards and act like you're the best or proclaim that you are going to make 10 sacks if you aren't. Put your head down and work. If you show up on the field, you get forgiven off the field in pro sports.

If fans can say whatever dumb bs to players that they want on social media then players are allowed the same. They aren't special cases because they're pro athletes.

You can hate the personality, the persona all you want that is fine but this here that I am quoting is 100% BS.  I don't know where this narrative came from but it's flat out wrong and I wish people would stop masking their hatred of the personality with this "lazy" narrative.

Takk has a relentless motor and passion that few have which is funny because I see people complaining about this roster being too nice and too timid and look how the one player who actually has it is treated and viewed.  It's hilariously pathetic.

Like I said, if you wanna hate his personality, fine.  if you wanna hate him not putting up sack numbers fine.  Don't question this man's heart or motor.  He has that side down in spades and you are foolish if you think otherwise.

I hate dumba___es on twitter more than anyone, and sure Takk can dive right in the thick of it if that's what he wants; no one is going to deny him that pleasure.

But if he wants to act like don't want to be on the Falcons, he will also get his final year of his contract voided.
