Analysis on the A.J. Terrell pick

We definitely could have used Alf last year.  Looking back we played our best team defense when he was on the field.

Alford had a nice career here. But we drafted him in the 2nd round, some 40 picks later than AJ. The kind of have similiar issues which will most likely mean that AJ will never be a shutdown corner.

But looking at the run at CB in this draft, Alford would probably also be drafted in the first round in 2020. It feels like half of the first round picks were either WR or CB, that is where you have to win the battles these days.

My comment wasn‘t meant negative or positive anyway.

He'll be a solid #2 corner in a couple of years. It's not whether or not he'll be a contributor at some point... it's about taking him at #16 when they probably could have traded back and still got him.

According to Simms, Terrell has more upside than Okudah. Rating him the 2nd best CB in this draft, with Okudah ranked #3.

AJ Terrell will be good for us. I think we should all remember that we have Raheem Morris as our D Coordinator. Morris should be able to get the most out of AJ and work on his hand technique. Once he gets his hands cleaned up, he’ll dominate.

I don’t know if he’ll dominate, but I do know if his downside is he needs coaching, we have a good defensive coaching staff.

What proof of evidence do you have that the Falcons could have traded back?  I hear this all over the board.   TRADE BACK!!  It takes 2 teams to trade back

I don't have a horse in this race because I don't know squat about these guys but here is a quote from the Falcoholic:

"Then there’s the evidence from the Falcons side. Had the Falcons not been locked into Terrell, they might’ve found an offer to trade down a few spots with the Eagles enticing, given how clearly desperate Philadelphia was to get ahead of the Cowboys for CeeDee Lamb. Atlanta didn’t budge."

Kiper and McShay are literally the two worst draft pundits in the industry. I have no idea how they both still have jobs.

With Kiper I think it is mostly tradition at this point.  He is the Lee Corso of the NFL Draft.  No one cares for him, but it wouldn't be the same without him.

I understand the initial disappointment of the pick as it seems that Kinlaw just slipped through our fingers.  But realistically, A.J. Terrell was the logical pick considering who was left on the board.  I know some will argue we should have traded down but this year much more than others there didn't seem to be much of an appetite for trading picks.  Given all of the uncertainty and unusual circumstances teams felt it was best to trust their evaluations and pick the best player on their boards.

As far as an analysis of the player, Terrell is an explosive athlete that pretty consistently played on the highest national stage but not always with the best of results (see National Title game).  I would argue though that we are putting much more stock in that game maybe than it deserves due to recency bias. That one game made half of the LSU roster a ton of money by elevating their stock come draft day rightly or not.(ie. Queen, Chaisson).

The inconsistency in his play is concerning but what is more concerning to me is the lack of ball skills.  We don't have one player on our roster with ballhawking ability outside of Kazee (who likely won't even be a starter).  While we added a very talented player to our secondary I am very concerned about our ability to create turnovers with our current personnel.  There are still some talented safeties on the board that could change that but they will likely require a trade up from 47.

very worried about this pick! the acc is down right a garbage conf. Sorry he played vs some terrible comp until playoffs every year. He opposite of oliver will get us torched early and often.

I sure hope you are right because our secondary looks avg at best right now
