Seems like rescuing dogs during lockdown is a thing around here. It happened to us this past week. This guy wandered up dirty and skinny, playing with my daughter in the front yard. After a few days o

So in your opinion,  who is the hero and who is the villain in the video?

Sometimes in life there are no heroes or villains. Obviously from the short clip I saw I believe the woman was definitely in the wrong but my response wasn't about the video.

So in your opinion why are the protesters there?

I have a naive yet provocative question: Do you even consider the US to be a nation? Or is it just a country?

Because observing how vicious American nationals are against other American nationals, I wonder how those people could consider themselves one nation.

it’s both more and less than a country, but i don’t like calling it a nation.

i like football. i like tailgating on fall saturdays. i like country music. i like hip hop. i love late-night waffle houses and i like saying yes ma’am/sir. i like baseball - there’s nothing like the smell of well-worn glove. i love atlanta and i love this state. there’s good people here. i love being able to talk to anyone, that instant social connection i feel like americans can create anywhere, anytime, with anyone.

all of these things exist basically absent vocal political disagreement. there’s good there. there’s culture worth holding onto. is that attached to us as a country? i don’t know. as a socialist, i don’t really care about a lot of the professed national structures, systems, or symbols - i do lean into international solidarity a lot personally. do i think it’s completely without value? of course not. there are certain ideas represented in this country that we got right - birthright citizenship, for instance. or the poem at the foot of the statue of liberty that we so often fail to live up to.

this isn’t an ethno state. we’re not a nation of one people. but i also don’t buy into a civic nationalism that requires us to be capital’s home turf, either.

That's easy.  They want to be heard.

Fair points. Thanks for the detailed answer.

The thing that’s really pissing me off is the “elect republicans” since the dems suck so much.  The dems don’t care, but the republicans are actively making it worse.  My only solace of trump is that he has truly ripped the bandaid off and is exposing our country for what it really is.  It is terrifying
