Oh I’m sure he is. That really does explains a lot. “Let’s tax the American people more to help subsidize my chosen career”

How about if he wants free education to all how about he push his university to just let anyone in free of charge?  He could just teach for free if he wants.

I’ll let you read my last post.  Let’s just say that the things I support would produce lower revenue for universities and colleges like mine.

What you don’t seem to understand is that government already subsidizes universities in the form of loans.  And that’s part of the problem, as I explain in that previous post.  Right now there is no incentive for universities to keep tuition loan PRECISELY because government just hands out loans to anyone and everyone.  We need to have an incentive against universities raising tuition and fees all the time.  Free tuition provides government the leverage to do that.

Think about a state that provides a state-funded scholarship for all residents who have a high school GPA above 3.0.  That’s free tuition.  But when students graduate, they can move to other states and make lots of money.  The state loses that tax revenue and hence that money. It’s EXACTLY the system you oppose except it’s even worse — states have zero chance of recouping the money in the form of taxes.

So switch that system with one where the federal government provides tuition, negotiates with public universities to keep tuition low, and the federal government recoups that money in the form of income taxes when people make higher income.  It’s actually a rather conservative idea and is far better than the socialist-type system of state scholarships that we have across the US today.

just a warning, friends, you simply cannot have a serious dialogue with someone who thinks like this.

True, and I’m not really discussing this with him.  I’m more using his posts as an excuse to put ideas out there.

I hope one day you can take some of that compassion you've admirably been showing for black folks in America and extend it to the Palestinians, who have it much worse.

No what I said is completely relevant.  You are all advocating for the American tax payer to pay 100% of the tuition for anyone who wants to get an education.  Just raise their taxes.  A college education in the United States is very much achievable. I did it in the 90s and I can guarantee you people have many more opportunities to do so today as happened back then.

There we have it. This guy is thinking of college in terms of what it cost back when NBC had Must See TV and gas was 89 cents.

Does it need one and is Carter dumb enough to do it? I mean it's definitely not my call but I could bring it up.

He's the most reasonable and generally well-liked poster there and the board really only requires moderation from September thru January.

The day you'll understand that Palestinians are as much the victims of the Palestinian leadership (and probably more) as they are of the Netan-yahoo government, we can have a conversation...

Gas is $5.6 in Germany

Oh and electricity is 30 Eurocent per kw/h, so roughly $0.33. Whatever your electricity bill is right now, in Germany it would be 4x as much.

Hey, how is the Benghazi crowd responding to Chimp being ok with US troops being targeted by the Russians???

How about Trump now ordering law enforcement to begin to prosecute vandals destroying statues but he doesn't give a cr@p about Russia putting a bounty on our troops.  Russias' payments began in 2019 and Trump was informed in March. About the time he said covid-19 was a hoax. :bang::bang::bang:

The only recent moderating Sac did was pinning your threads so we're basically just cutting out the middle man.

I'm just gonna make you a mod without asking you or anyone else and then sit back and watch you go on a vengeance tour over there.

So here are the numbers for you, who still think Germany is a place, where everything is magically free.

I make around 72k € a year, so roughly $80k

Mandatory taxes:

- 18,000 income tax

- 1,000 solidarity tax (for the still lagging behind East of Germany)

- 5,000 for health insurance (my employer has to pay 5,000 as well for me)

- 1,000 elderly care insurance

- 7,500 pension

- 1000 unemployment insurance

- not listed: church tax (not kidding, mandatory if you are registered with a church) because I left the church so I don‘t have to pay for it

So I am down to roughly 46,500 from 80,000

Energy, mentioned $5.6 for gas and $0.33 electricity kw/h apply as well as mandatory car insurance. All in all I would say energy, car related mandatory stuff et al costs me 6,500 a year

So still I have nothing yet to show for and I am down to 40k from 80k.

And now comes the cruel part, everything I know buy, electronics, clothing, food etc has the insane VAT of 19%. So if I were to spend the 40k on stuff I really need or want, we can roughly say goodbye to 7,500 for the VAT

I stop here because there are many more smaller but equally ridiculous mandatory fees (like paying a TV tax, roughly 200 bucks a year... which you even have to pay if you don‘t own a TV) but I fear people would stop believing it.

Not even mentioned: Housing or renting costs, I don‘t own a house (most Germans don‘t, I think you start to get the idea why), so say goodbye to whatever you would imagine that would cost you.

Anyway, those taxes, those fees and those sales taxes, they are all going to the federal budget to finance the perks we have.

But if anyone still says the word „free“ than you know he is lying through his teeth.

I love when people's entire perspective on national politics is guided singularly by their own personal experience. Totally worthwhile conversations.

That's the problem right here. . .
