Seems like rescuing dogs during lockdown is a thing around here. It happened to us this past week. This guy wandered up dirty and skinny, playing with my daughter in the front yard. After a few days o

Yes, that was kind of my point.  Leaving school with 150 grand in debt for a 40k a year job is insane.  It shouldn't even be possible.  Frankly, it's ******* disgusting.

I guess that all depends. Some people feel very passionately about their work, particularly health care workers, and incomes probably won't stay at $40K for too long, hopefully.

If you have a nursing degree working as an RN and only making 40K, then you are seriously underpaid.

Even in low cost of living areas that's on the low end.

BWAHAHAHA!!!

I got my stimulus payment via direct deposit weeks ago.  But I just got the Trump rally letter in the mail today.  It wasn’t as overtly partisan as I expected — he mentions the House and Senate passing the CARES act.  But the really hilarious thing?  On the backside of the page is the same letter...in spanish.

Can’t find the post about GOP being **** bent on making sure people can’t get unemployment.  This might explain some of that motivation:

https://taxfoundation.org/state-unemployment-compensation-trust-funds-run-mere-weeks/

^^^Georgia is in a particularly bad spot in terms of the state budget and unemployment payouts.

I'd be curious why that is.  My understanding is unemployment at the state level is 100% employer funded.  So if employers are paying their employment taxes, there should be no issue, as each employee would have the requisite number of weeks allotted already.

Now, granted, extending unemployment benefits beyond the 16 weeks (or whatever) would of course be a problem.  But that doesn't appear to be what is being said here.

I read up a little bit about it and the funding does come from employers (and in some cases employees), but it’s not private insurance.  The states maintain a fund for paying it out and the federal government has some funds to loan states if they run dry.  But with 20%+ of the state population filing for unemployment, they could rip through those state funds in weeks.

I don’t *know* that this is motivating governors to reopen quickly, but it’s one **** of an incentive for them to make it harder for people to get unemployment benefits.
