Which is the weirdest phenomenon to me: hating Castro for his regime, but admiring him as a strongman for implementing it?

It's right up there with hating socialism, but being accepting of fascist authoritarianism

Most Cubans in South Florida hate Castro because he took their relative’s plantations and freed their slaves.

Seems like rescuing dogs during lockdown is a thing around here. It happened to us this past week. This guy wandered up dirty and skinny, playing with my daughter in the front yard. After a few days o

Ah, so its akin to the Southern "blueblood" mentality: hating the North for the Civil War and taking their livihood and property away.

With all of the revolutions those countries had in their history, it's hard to view them as "liberal".

I'm a three issue voter: 1. Trump not being President; 2. Barr not being AG; 3. voting out the party of Qanon

I may have mentioned, but my wife and I are trying to start a fledgling write-in campaign against Marjorie Taylor Greene.  The idea being to have someone else register on the ballot since she's essentially running unopposed.  Democrats are still going to vote for the guy who won't be eligible to hold the office any longer (he's moving out of state), but it would be cool to have a significant number of votes for someone else.

We have someone in mind, but we will see if anyone in our circle agrees enough to publicize that they intend to do this.

I saw a tweet recently that claimed the deadline to register had already passed, but I'm not sure if true.

It has, but I'm pretty sure you can still do a write-in.  The idea is encourage a bunch of Republicans who can't stand her to write in someone else.  Someone who could theoretically win the seat.  There are multiple options but the key is to encourage people to rally around one of them so that person gets a relatively significant number of votes.  You don't even need 1%, just enough for someone to report it in the news.

Does it accomplish anything?  I don't know.  I'd like to think it would give her pause that a large number of people voted against her even though she is running unopposed, and that a reasonable number of those were in her own party.  But given how she behaves, it's probably useless.  She'd use it to construct an enemies list or something.

Generally speaking Cubans in South Florida have different politics than other Latino immigrants. I know, I’ve lived with one for several years.

And it’s hard to view a lot of Central American countries as “liberal” mostly because of CIA coups and death squads. Also Colombia’s right wing regime is our closest ally in South America.

Hardly anyone here is voting for Biden for his merits. It's more about casting the vote most damaging to Trump.

Should Trump win (and I still think he probably will) at least I'll have the satisfaction of seeing the Democrat establishment eat a giant **** sandwich after what they did to Bernie.

And I know a lot of people want to accelerate this ultimate showdown between the left and the Dem establishment, but that most likely means Trumpist hegemony for the next decade. That sounds ok for some, but some of us have children and personally I'd rather not have to raise mine in a Cormac McCarthy novel.

I think we have a fundamental difference of opinion that we’ll never be able to resolve but I’m happy to agree to disagree and operate on a live and let live basis while on the board.

On that, I agree. I served with both when I was in the Navy. I learned a lot, especially on a few things politico and how they view each other.

Blew my mind.
