Pros and Cons of Gurley

Recommended Posts

Pros:

  • no more “Gurley to Atlantie” idiocy
  • 1 year deal, so it won’t hinder our nexr coach’s or gm’s rebuild
  • sells tickets
  • maybe one last year in those rickedy arthritic knees?

Cons

  • lessens the chance of drafting a back with a bright future, like Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
  • $5 million tied up in a washed up unwanted back with ruined arthritic knees
  • if there IS one more year left in those rickedy arthritic knees, it might mean another year of Quinn & Koetter.

Just now, Artys Arryn said:

I think the 1yr deal leaves us wide open to draft a back this year. Let em RBBC and take over next year after we use up the rest of the gas in Gurleys tank.

This is truth. I don’t think it changes RB draft plans at all, though it doesn’t eliminate the need to rely on a rookie to deliver day 1.

..and maybe able to gamble and draft one later than expected prior to the signing.

Pros:

He's still only 25.

He's got a nose for the endzone, with 58 rushing TD's since he entered the league in '15. He's had double-digit rushing TDs in all but 1 season.

He has a 4.3 YPA over his career.

He is a legit receiving threat with a 9.6 YPC, and has racked up a lot of catches coming out of the backfield.

He protects the ball well.

Cons:

He's only started all 16 games in one season back in '16. What good is it to have a great back if he is only playing in a few games for you?

His health is very questionable. A running back with bad knees isn't a good piece to add to a team in need of a running game.

This signing could keep us from getting a really good/fresh RB in the draft.

Factor in that DK has yet to show us he can even manufacture a run game.

He's just a piece to the puzzle..... Let's not think he's going to get 50 carries per game and return kickoffs for us.

That's true. He's actually never even come close to 300 attempts in a single season, and he won't be used like that here. He will be a new dynamic that teams will have to account for; he's a playmaker.

Pros:

  • no more “Gurley to Atlantie” idiocy Ah that's the real problem. Got it.
  • 1 year deal, so it won’t hinder our nexr coach’s or gm’s rebuild If we change coaches he might want Gurley
  • sells tickets Definitely. I bought two to go see him last year. Playing for the freakin Rams. Worked Beasley
  • maybe one last year in those rickedy arthritic knees? The knee problem is overblown by TATF IMO. Listen to his teammates. We shall soon see. Could you tackle him on that bum knee? Doubt it. Plenty NFLers didn't

Cons

  • lessens the chance of drafting a back with a bright future, like Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Could still draft a RB but we have 2 LBs on the roster, 3 corners and a LG conundrum bro. And yall boys want another RB? OK.
  • $5 million tied up in a washed up unwanted back with ruined arthritic knees. More than $5M tied up on Rico Suave, JayMon, Carp and Bailey this year. Troffed.
  • if there IS one more year left in those rickedy arthritic knees, it might mean another year of Quinn & Koetter. If Quinn and Kutty get us back to a significant position, I'll hope we keep them and get rid of you and the rest of your boys.
