Kirby's Dad, Sonny, was the coach at Rabun County years ago and asked his friend to come help him out. His friend was George Bobo lol

Then Jaybo and Connor Shaws dad coached there. Now Jaybo coaches there and Connor is back at South Carolina.

Was this before Kirby was just a tough kid from Bainbridge?

Is Isaiah Williams really a comp for James Williams?  I’m giddy thinking of the versatility he brings.  6’5, 220 lbs safety that runs like a deer.

Coach Rambo keeps telling him to be the next Sean Taylor.  Sounds good to me.  Dawgs trying to build Hurticanes 2001 secondary

Isaiah Simmons is the comp for James Williams, correct.  Williams is a bit faster and maybe more athletic.

Where did Muschamp grow up?  Rabun Co.?

Rome. He went to Darlington, a private school here. Same school we just got Tate from. Speaking of Bobo, that guy used to be a major party hound. When he was playing at UGA he would sometimes come to Rome to visit his sister who was at Berry College; don't think I ever once saw him where he wasn't staggering drunk, lol. I know he cleaned up his act later, luckily for him.

There will never be another Sean Taylor. Taylor was a LB,Safety,Corner all rolled into one. Sean was legit 6’3 230 and ran a 4.4. God made the perfect football player when he created Sean

So someone please explain to me why we're making a S&C coach an on field coach and why I should be excited about this

Cochran is a recruiting machine... not many people realize that about him. Now about him as an on field coach, that remains to be seen. This is a huge move and weakens Bama significantly on a lot of fronts

I'm waiting for the sales pitch as well. I'm not saying it's a bad hire, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around why it should be an exciting hire... Presumably, there are other ST specialist coaches that are out there that we could have targeted. Just not sure why we should be the proving ground for a coach that has never done the job on the field. I appreciate that he's got a ton of experience at a top program, but I do worry that ST will become a bit of an extension of the old "just beat your man" philosophy that Kirby had on offense, as opposed to actually scheming for success. We shall see I suppose.

I have a buddy from Tuscaloosa who talked with Cochran a few weeks ago. Apparently he grew up wanting to be a coach but got "stuck" on the strength and conditioning route, and that he seemed irritated that Bama wasn't paying him enough. Told my buddy he was looking for a coaching job in the next few years. I guess the opportunity came sooner than that.

Yeah saw that

Also saw where someone said he's been campaigning for a HC job for a while so if true maybe this is him wanting to take another step to make him a more attractive candidate

Breaking:

Alabama S&C coach Scott Cochran leaving Bama to become on field coach at UGA.

I'm not sure if I'm the minority but part of me would've likedo for us to hire a QB guy. That being said, I don't know enough to figure out if this is a good or meh. Just hoping we'll be good enough on offense.

Believe Buster Faulkner can help there - I know he is only an analyst and frankly I don’t know what they aren’t allowed to do - I guess they cannot touch the dirt or turf of the practice field but do all the rest?

My guess would be that Monken handles QBs with Faulkner taking the bulk so Monken can spend some time in everything on offense

Johnson was an analyst too, and my all reports was far more of the "real" QB coach during his entire time here despite Chaney and Coley's official designations

I will say, I trust Kirby, and I'm sure that if anyone knows if this guy is ready to be on field coach, it's him, and ST is at least a position that could be helped/ran by committee if he struggled or needed help at first

All that being said, this makes me uneasy. It's a weird move to be sure
