Simplicity and being true to Atlanta were two main focuses for New jerseys - Falcons Chief marketing officer

Really, they could've just updated the 60's or 90's throwbacks with the current/updated logo and 95% of the fan base would've been happy.

I think we're going to get a modernized version of the throwback, but my fear is they're going to try and do too much. Just hope we don't end up looking like an arena team.

Yea, you attach certain team personalities with their look. You see creamsicle buccaneer jerseys and you think of their pathetic winless seasons. When you see the dark blue cowboys jerseys with giant shoulder stars, you think of the 90s cowboys.

We need a fresh start, shake off the old team. You look good, you feel good, you feel good, you play good- you know how it goes.

Astute point. The Falcons haven't looked good since mid-third quarter of the SB and they haven't felt good or played good since. This uniform change has been way overdue.

Why do I have the nagging feeling they're going to be butt-ugly, a nightmarish hybrid smashing together the worst of the old with something over-the-top futuristic? Surprise me, Nike, make them at least palatable.

She said we will have a full closet with a home, away, alternate and throwback looks. But she later actually said "the nfl will let us have 4 jerseys and 4 pants"

I wonder if that means we will have 4 different pants then? The league letting us do it and actually doing it are different things.

Morgan Shaw Parker, the falcons marketing chief was on 92.9 shedding some light into the new look of the falcons

https://929thegame.radio.com/media/audio-channel/1-16-20-john-and-hugh-9-am-hourmp3 - towards the last third of the video

some main points from interview

  • new design is staying true to the soul of Atlanta. They literally gleamed over fan insight from the internet going back to a decade
  • simplicity is important, not trying to be a college team
  • will be a significant redesign, true to atlanta and the soul of the team but will be an evolution
  • Won't say if logo will be tweaked (so possibly?)
  • Nike doesn't have full say on look, unlike other teams have had, we have a falcons designer within the Nike team
  • we can get 4 all new looks with 4 jerseys and 4 different pants.
  • Socks are really important to players
  • Can only use one helmet for now but Rick Mckay is prodding the league to change that up
  • Jerseys should have a look that goes for young & old, Men & women
  • not going to make players do corny poses on a stage to show off new look

new design is staying true to the soul of Atlanta - meaningless and worrisome.

They literally gleamed over fan insight from the internet going back to a decade - reassuring.

simplicity is important, not trying to be a college team - reassuring.  Exactly how they should approach it.

Won't say if logo will be tweaked (so possibly?) - reassuring.  Would love an updated logo or simply reverting to best versions of the original logo.

Can only use one helmet for now but Rick Mckay is prodding the league to change that up - disappointing, because it leads me to think they're sticking with black and hoping they can alternate with red later.  Really wanted red.

Jerseys should have a look that goes for young & old, Men & women - meh.  Jerseys should look good on the field first, and on everyone else second.  Maybe this just gets back to the simplicity they mention.  Hopefully, marketing doesn't override good design.

I'd like to see a move back to red helmets (preferably a blood red) with a logo that has a more defined outline.  I think the logo should be better visualized that way.

I'd also like to see the primary jersey color to go to black with white pants.  I think that is the most classic look.  An alternate could be red jersey with black pants.

Regardless of the color scheme, I think we will see a less clown-like uni.......and that is a good thing.

The other encouraging thing wi that they don't want to mimic the college look.  No offense to any fans here, but the Falcons should not look like the Dawgs.

I’m with you on these thoughts.

All jokes aside I agree completely.

In before someone talks about they only care about how the Falcons should be focusing more on how they play on the field right now...

Like that genius on Twitter a few years ago, I'm still mad Julio was on a jet ski in the off-season and not spending every waking second focusing on Football!

There seems to be a buzzword of "soul" - "Soul of Atlanta", "Soul of the team", etc.  And not from just this source.  Not sure what this means - Hopefully throwback-centric designs.  As long as, "Rise Up" is dead and buried.

Soul of Atlanta? That scares me the most

The thing to keep in mind is it is still being primarily designed by Nike. That makes it hard for me to believe that they will be overly basic or simple in the end. One can hope though.

They did say there is a falcon designer embedded in the Nike design team. That's a first for any franchise re-design so hopefully will pay off.

Buzz words like "True to Atlanta", "Simplicity is important (not trying to look like a colleage uniform)" and "taking into account fan feedback over the last decade". All that leads me to think we'll end up with an updated throwback look with red helmets. I don't know if the black (my preference) or red jersey will be our home option and I have zero clue what they will do with the pants (4 different variations has me slightly worried).
