I mean, he had a guy running free, and the play call was probably for Freeman to block. Hindsight and all that, but that play probably works 9/10 times, and we were all had no brakes all year. That’s what having a team mentality looks like, people just didn’t execute.

Hardy walks in the endzone if Freeman picks  up the block.  Facts

Still dont believe that he should have ran the ball. Keep our defense off the field so they wouldnt be gassed, run the clock down cause the Pat's had only 1 time out, etc..  Dont care who was open, run the dang ball!! Other factors play into running the ball, not just having a guy open.

Or maybe he learned from his mistakes?

Something funny about this board to me (not you at all, since you aren't saying this, but generally) is how everyone expects the coach who got arrogant and called 4 shotgun plays in a row in field goal range is now the guy who is going to win it all and totally not do that ever again.

The HC who hired him, got us there in his 2nd season, and came real close to getting us back the next season?  No, that guy will never learn.  He's hopeless.  He's a lost cause.

Trust me I'm not bitter. Sh1t happens but "maybe he learned from his mistakes" doesn't really compute when he says the below

"But the whole narrative of 'if I just would have run it, we would have won,' I know that wasn't the case. I know what went into that game and all the stuff that happened, so that stuff didn't bother me."

EXACTLY!!!! His ego told him to say that.

He either hasn't learned his lesson or that he can't admit he made a mistake.  Neither one shines a good light on him.

That wasn’t our game though. Shanahan wasn’t a methodical driver, he wanted big plays on 1st and 2nd down, he wanted quick scores, he wanted big leads. Defensively, they had to do their job knowing they had a big lead and pin their ears back and get at the QB. Ya keep wanting to win your way and you forget a team can only win their way. Our mentality got us to a SB, you don’t change philosophy mid game, you make the plays that are presented. At most we should’ve been draining play clock, which is on Ryan and the coaches for no one realizing we were giving them the set up for a comeback by not using the time we had.

Was not all his fault.   The D scored most of the points in the first half so really was not like the O was killing the Patriots .  Freeman had horrible pass protection and I love Matt Ryan but he could have thrown the ball away instead of taking a 10 yard loss on the sack ,,   DQ could have overlooked play calls also ,

I wouldn't exactly say 7 of 21 total first half points was "most of the points" unless I'm missing something.

What I mean is the D played sold in the first half and crap in the 2nd  Patriots did what ever they wanted to and proved it  that was not KS fault   if the Falcons can make just one stop they had the game .  Then OT was a complete joke

After the SB

We should have

Let go of DQ and made Shannahan HC

(yeah Shannahans non-running calls at end of game killed us but DQ could have overrides the calls given the end of game Managing and clock management.  Shannhan was the reason we were in SB in the 1st place not DQ)

And kept Tevin Coleman - even if it meant having to drop Freeman

Are you arguing Shanahan is not a good coach?

Nope. Never said that. But he's not this God that the nuthuggers around here proclaim him to be. It's made this place so freaking unbearable at times having to see all the "Falcons should have fired Quinn and promoted Shanny" crap! Straight BS and I'm glad he lost tonight and lost the way he did! Maybe now the fools around here will move on from it.

Ok...it’s definitely dumb to say we should’ve promoted Shanahan...besides being bad for business, we just had a 2nd year head coach lead us to a SB and install what looked like a bright future defensively with stalwarts like the sack leader Vic, new age LB Debo, hybrid LB Campbell and baby Geno Grady. So that’s nuts...but I can’t imagine any Falcons fan moving on from Shanahan until this offensive core leaves/retires, or we get back to that 2016 magic.
