Falcons Fan MVP 3,744
Let's say the Falcons do let Austin Hooper walk and rely on our high paid Quarterback, Julio and Ridley to carry the load while hoping Blake , Z and Gage step up. You could make a strong argument that we have enough shiny ornaments at the receiving position and we need to go after the "meat and potatoes" of our roster. Do you think we could get a good free agent pass rusher with Hooper's would be money? Possibly 2 solid defensive pieces? Maybe Alex Mack's free agent long term replacement?(would prefer experience in that position). As much as we'd love to keep Hooper could that money be better spent elsewhere? gtech1, Atl Falcon, PokerSteve and 1 other

Faithful Falcon 8,110
By the way, the only way to replace Hooper would be to draft his replacement. If a FA can't help us win right now, it's wasted money. We can draft and collect the Comp Picks for Hooper, Campbell, Beasley, and whoever else. Humble guy too...pops raised him well. 18 hours ago, Drew4719 said: Idk but probably not any players as good as Austin hooper That's a kinda singleminded way of thinking about it. We have a massive investment on the offensive side of the ball - tops in the NFL - and one of the lower investments in the NFL on defense. Even without Hooper, there's more than enough talent on offense to win with. And for the record, I'm a big Hooper fan. Just being realistic here. There's a very real chance we can sign someone like Ansah to a 1 year cheapo prove-it, bring back Irvin, and re-sign Clayborn for the same money we'd pay Hooper - and that's likely without any money tied up in 2021. That plus someone like Chaisson in the draft is a huge influx of talent on the DL, while replacing Campbell, and Irvin has experience at SAM too. If we back-load Hooper's deal like many are suggesting, we'll have almost 200 million tied up in 25 players (mostly offense) in 2021. Can't keep kicking that can if we want to maximize Ryan's prime. Giving him a good defense will help more than trying to make every position on the offense elite. Falcons Fan MVP, PokerSteve, duckhoa and 2 others

Yes. 6 weeks ago he would not have been drafted. He has only played 17 games since high school and averages 2.5 catches per game. It was one of the highest scoring offenses in CFB history but Thaddeus wasn't a cause of it, he was a benefactor. If he wasn't Moss' son, he'd be a day 3 pick without a doubt. If you want to take him in the 4th, go for it. But using a 2 on him is just poor use of resources. FalconsIn2012

Atl Falcon 3,930
At one time I was thinking no way we let Hoop walk but after thinking about it for a few weeks now I’m not sure we don’t let him walk. The guy isn’t a threat one and one and is average at best as a blocker. He does a really good job finding open spots in the zone but is he worth 10m/yr? Draft class of TEs look good plus one offseason of MR and JaedenGraham spending time together in the summer seems like the better option here. That money could be spent on a pass rusher Edited January 19, 2020 by Atl Falcon AlabamaFalconFan and PokerSteve

Run 'n' Shoot 689
We could not draft anyone to step into Hoop's shoes right away. However, I don't think it would be hard to draft a TE as good as Hooper was coming out and develop him similarly. Atl Falcon and FalconsIn2012

Hoop’s development as a 3rd round pick was the exception, not the rule. See fellow 3rd rounders Duke Riley....Deadrin Senat...Dez southward .....that’s more the norm, not just here but everywhere. You have to consider the position. Plenty of 3rd, 4th and 5th round TEs out there ballin. It's a much easier position to develop than those you listed.
