I haven't given up on Riley but the plan is for him to begin the season at Gwinnett for a reason. It's because he needs to learn some plate discipline. What do I want from Markakis? Just check out his WAR totals since he's been in a Braves uniform. They're not very good. If Riley has a good Spring I believe he'll be on roster

It's certainly not ideal. This goes back to a conversation back when we were tanking shamelessly. Teams don't have to be above average at every position, and GMs count on this. As long as we're above average overall, that's going to be good enough for mid-market or smaller teams. The Braves clearly need *at least* one more starter and JD back at a minimum. Then, we'd spend a lot of the season discussing Dansby because nobody's ever 100% happy with a roster. But I would love to see us acquire two more offensive players. It would demonstrate a commitment toward being seriously competitive. To the credit of the front office, we demonstrated that during 2019. Also, weird note Jidady, for whatever reason when I want to quote your posts I've got to hit multi-quote in order for it to work because it won't allow me to straight quote you. It's very weird. You're the only person I have this happen with.

Boise Falcon Fan
Since most of you are in the ATL, are you hearing much about the JD situation? Right now I'm starting to think he is just going to go to the highest bidder, so I am not thinking we're going to get him. That is going to be a big disappointment. I love his swagger. This team needs that.

This team needs that. The majority believe he is coming to Atlanta. If you believe the reports the Braves increased their offer to 4 years $100M a couple of weeks ago. That supposedly made all offers near even. Boise Falcon Fan

Boise Falcon Fan
This sucks big time! I really wanted him to be brought back. I love the swagger he brought to our team. Super bummed about this! They should have ponied up $23 per. putnam6
JDFIII
Josh is currently a great player. I do worry for us in the NL about the 3rd and 4th year. Until the CBA states that both leagues have the DH, the AL will win this type of bidding war. They have less risk inherently. I am in the minority on this, but, I think Johan holds down 3b until Austin is ready. I think we are in the trade market for a LF if we do not sign Ozuna. I don't think we are interested in him for 2 reasons. He blocks Waters when ready, and his defense is lacking. My prediction is a trade for LF with Pitt for Marte, and Waters being the main bait. Pache up this year, some time in May or June when he shows his bat is ready.
putnam6
All that matters is the next year up gonna miss JD'S attitude and bat, likely Johan and Austin aren't near that production and impact in 2020. If its not a hole at 3rd its a dent

I highly doubt the Braves are even gonna be sitting at the table, hope I'm wrong but just don't see this ownership group doing that. They will wait and trade for or sign mid- tier players and hope the core gets better.

They're willing to go pretty high, Donaldson would have put them at about $155M payroll which would have been among the top half of the league. It's just the Rockies want top prospects in return for a guy that's $35M a year and has an opt out in 2021. Also check his splits, hes .265/.323/.476 in his career away from Coors. Good, solid line, still a power bat with exceptional defense but is he worth $35M per year and top prospects? I'm not sold. Good player but too much for me.
