Do you think Gary Kubiak would have been our offensive coordinator if John Elway had not have blocked the interview?

Recommended Posts

With the lack of dominance by our offense under Dirk Koetter this year a lot us wish we would have gotten Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator last offseason. It was weird because Elway blocked our interview request and as soon as we signed Koetter, Elway let Kubiak go to Minnesota but only as an advisor. It's possible Gary Kubiak didn't want  be an offensive coordinator again.

So my question is do you think Gary Kubiak was really interested in being an offensive coordinator for the Falcons? If Elway had not have blocked it do you think Kubiak would have come here? Or do you think he wasn't interested in coming here and told Elway to block it?

All I know is John Elway is a diick and I don’t like him. Never have. That horse tooth grin and the way he looked when he dropped back to pass made him look like an entitled brat. I just want to take a hobnail boot and crush his face.

We had an OC void but Sark may have been a better OC than Kutty. True story.

Didn't like the Kutty re-hire but he is ramping it up. Need to see the last two games.

Truly think it's time to rebuild. From owner to coordinators, position coaches and players. Need rest.

I actually think Koetter is slightly better than Sark. If we could somehow get Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator next year I think we would be fine. Promote Raheem Morris or bring back Marquand Manuel to defensive coordinator and we good.

I honestly think that Kubiak really wasn't going to interview for an OC job with the Falcons. It was more than likely for an advisor role.

I think he would've been an offensive advisor just like how he is now for the Vikings.

We could use him to advise Koetter how to have a lethal run game lol. If Kubiak really wanted to come here you would think he would have demanded it and Elway would let him.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much or if Elway really had any impact over the whole Kubiak not interviewing with the Falcons.

I think Falcons may have only wanted to offer Kubiak the OC job and he turned it down and the Falcons really wasn't feeling having him in an advisor role with Koetter and Malarkey eventually having so much input into the offense as is. No need for andvisor Because that would've been way too many cooks in the kitchen offensively.

Kutty is the pass happiest OC in the league. Never liked him and never wanted him this year.

Hopefully he'll go to the State Line in 2020. Will gladly volunteer to drive him out to Alabama.

What was the timing on Stefanski being the Vikings OC? It "seemed" like Kubiak left Denver after being blocked from ideal OPEN/VACANT OC positions.

I think he would've been OC here without question if not BLOCKED from our interview when we had a vacancy...just my gut. We were looking for an OC at the time not the supporting cast... If we wanted an advisor, why cut Sark and then not know who we'd want to Kubiak to be advising?

What I meant was that Kubiak may have not been interested in an OC job to begin with.

He probably wanted the Falcons to give him an advisor job, which the Falcons probably didn't want to offer because the Falcons offense is set up very similar to the Seahawks and Niners in structure with basically 2 OCs even though one may actually be labeled the OC.

I believe Koetter is the passing game coordinator while Malarkey is the run game coordinator despite being listed as the TE coach. If Kubiak would've been hired only as an offensive advisor then it would've been too many cooks in the kitchen offensively.

How many times do I have to point this out... Kubiak had Elway block it for him, because he didn't want to go on a bunch of interviews nor did he want to go around explaining why he interviewed here, and did not interview there, Etc.

And why are we still talking about this after all this time?

because fans are unhappy with our offense. Also if Kubiak wanted to come here and Elway blocked him which you explained he didn't, that would have meant there is a possibility he would come here next year because Elway wouldn't be able to block him anymore and it would be a promotion so he'd be able to interview I assume.

Kubiak wouldn’t have been hired...we went with Koetter and Mularkey because we were blocked initially from Kubiak.

And, your “probably” to me is a “might”...

I see no reason to believe Kubiak would need the kind’ve help Sark lacked; not fully...but I would’ve been more on board with keeping Sark and offering an advisor role to Gary...

Remember, it was “after” Denver blocked interviews that Gary and Broncos “agreed to part ways”...

I “believe” he wanted out after being blocked.

And, DQ said it developed later he wanted both Dirk and Mularkey if they could co-exist. Mike obliged...per DQ that wasn’t the original plan. In other words, it wasn’t our initial goal; Kubiak (higher up the Kyle tree)...

Where is the source for that? Why did Kubiak have interviews blocked when he could have declined himself? No blocking required. First I’m hearing of that story.

Why block interviews and then say part ways after blocked interviews??

Kubiak isn't interested in a OC job.

He was an advisor last season for the Broncos. Same as he is now with the Vikings.

It doesn't seem like he really wants to coach full time. Just rather lend a hand and give his input on things. I don't think his health will allow the stress that comes with a coaching job.

Head coach is what I remember reading...don't remember him saying no to an OC job; which is why I brought up what the state of the Vikings staff was when he parted ways with Denver (no longer blocked)...if MIN already had their OC they wouldn't then fire and hire Kubiak so they did the best they could: Enable Stefanski..wasn't he kept as OC after becoming interim last year? So...they didn't have a vacancy at OC.

Remember there was rumors that Elway wanted Kubiak to move from an offensive advisor down to become the Broncos OC.

I believe that was what made Kubiak part ways and go to the Vikings to become an offensive advisor for them.

It just seems like he doesn't want to be a full-time coach right now. Maybe in the future, who knows.

I remember some rumor like that. IMO, Kubiak didn't want to work with Elway any more or at least not in that sort of capacity in DEN again. Fresh start.

My gut says...ATL and Kubiak. Debatable the sort of form it would take; OC vs advisor, as it's speculation. IMO...Sark could've grown A LOT with Kubiak as advisor... Gary could have perhaps helped with the fine tuning of the run game; even if by way of hiring the right guys to teach how the outside ZBS was supposed to pair with the pass game (Mike McDaniels)...

Our pass offense was mostly fine despite HR; rare, or bust Coleman with Free down.

I’m pretty sure I read that the initial blocking was bc Elway wanted him to become the OC of the Broncos after a HC was hired. They decided to part ways due to differences in offensive philosophy and staffing. Kubiak wanted to bring in some of his own coaches and Fangio didn’t want to do that.

And I think they released him from his contract when the broncos signed the new staff and a official role wasn't agreed too

I think Quinn panicked and fired Sark because he was on the hot seat coming into this season. So he had to make some changes.

In a articLe I read Kubs was saying how he gets to go home earlier now and I just don't think he has that stress to be the guy running the show
