Where Has The Explosiveness Gone

The injuries to the OL (and lack of depth there) and Ryan Schraeder falloff last year didn't help last year. Sark wasn't exactly helping the cause either.

Then hiring Dirk just made it worse because his running history is mediocre (which hurts the PA game) and he consistently puts a lot of pressure on the OL with his playcalls, protections, empty sets, lack of 12 personnel, lack of misdirections and bootlegs.

Felt this all season, not surprised to see stats back it up

Being dead last in YAC due to Dirk’s routes doesn’t help

I was just gonna say....”out the door since DK entered bldg”.  I get that some blv consistency is key but if the man has a btr scheme why the heck wouldn’t you install it during camp????   Why wait until year 2????? I just want someone to explain that part of the equation bc I’m not getting it.  Seriously.....

Just a guess but the dip also coincides with the drop in our use of play-action.

Dude...just 4 verts GO! Beat man with superior position players and hope the OL can hold for 3+ seconds every snap. BRILLIANT! They'll also NEVER blitz that!

I thought...Sark was criticized for relying on superior weapons vs superior play design his first year primarily.:munch:

Protection issues and decline in skill players ( running back) ability to make guys miss.

Btw...you can't complain about dinking and dunking.....while complaining that routes are too deep and taking too long to develop.....those criticisms are mutually exclusive.

Not necessarily the full story, IMO...we dink and dunk because we aren't efficient with shot taking and often have to outlet pass to a RB or TE; see Hooper's production increase, to keep chains moving. Half the issue is having no explosive runs as well.

We don't run...we don't burn people making them defend the run as @PeytonMannings Forehead brought out with highlighting our drop off in PA.

Also, it hurts we go 1 TE/1 RB all the time...3 WR sets all day boys! @Rings brought our formation usage stats on this.

...basically we telegraph too much and the game now is about making defenses think more instead of letting them overplay you...without punishment. Dirk's version of that was notoriously screen game...but then we suck at that too without Ito/Coleman...Free is okay but again...the offense is CLUNKY...not explosive because of lack of design. How often did Shanny send 2-3 guys deep only looking for the bomb? It forces checkdowns...or sacks...note our uptick in sacks and again that ignores being able to run the ball. I'd rather run the ball down field and let big plays improve naturally. Dirk is ultimately the OC and responsible for both..it's supposedly why Sark was fired right?

So we dink and dunk....but we are always looking for the bomb?

Yeah those are mutually exclusive.

And the talk of DK not running the ball........while he does pass more than run...something that a lot of guys do but the difference from the falcons being in top 10 in attempts is roughly 5 attempts a game.....that is it...5 attempts per game....it is not the disparity that some here think.

Since the bye we are averaging 28 points a game......so for something that is so "clunky"......defenses are sure as **** having a hard time stopping it.

What’s funny is that heading into 2016 nobody thought we had superior talent.  Just an average offense with solid players.

Are we really that loaded?  Julio, Hooper, Ryan are all high level pro bowl players.  Outside of that we have pieces

12 turnovers created by the defense has created many short fields for the offense the past 6 games.  3 onsides kicks, 1 defensive touchdown, 1 ST touchdown.

Only once in the past 6 weeks has our offense accumulated over 350 yards.  Clunky

to protect this Oline as it is now Koetter should have really been calling KS' offense. this Oline cannot run Koetter's offense with people like Schweizter starting. put Gono at LG and then 'maybe'.... but i've seen enough of Koetter at this point. he was a reactionary hire by Quinn....a bad decision following a bad decision...

Everyone has talent; more or less. Coaching.
