Do we really not get our respect?

Beat the number 1 team in the nfc and possible sb pick, and the espn top headline is patriots video investigation. 9ers getting a spot and the eagles and Falcons helping the betting public were the only mentions.. Even the parts offense is getting more attention. Not that it matters but do the Falcons ever really get their props??

This team will never truly get league respect *ever* again until they go back to the Super Bowl and close the deal. And to me, that's fair.

I mean from a prognosticator's perspective, how can they ever be trusted? I don't mean trusted personally. They are a hard working, talented squad. They don't quit as we witnessed yesterday.

I'm talking about being trusted to get the job done. To the league AND the fans, they are the proverbial Lucy holding the football. "Kick it Charlie Brown!".

It's now their cross to bear. They'll either get it done with this regime, the next, or the next, or never. But the identity of this franchise is forever linked to 28-3 until they win a Lombardi. Like it or not.

I will say this...ONE person gave us respect. He was the head coach of the other team. Check out his post game. He said we outplayed them, AND outcoached them.

It's almost like Kyle saw this coming as some sort of Karmic payback. Its almost like he felt he deserved it. Heck, I sure did.

When the team is out of the playoffs it's not going to garner much lauding from the MS sports media. I did hear a few point out that the loss to the Falcons was "stunning" etc.

But you're not going to get much into the nuts and bolts from the drive by sports media. Folks that analyze this stuff deeply know whats up though.

Well the Pat's video story is a big deal. Even though the NFL is going to squash it this week.

From what I heard the Pats thing is nothing. They were making an episode of "Do your job" which is a docu-series about the behind the scenes operation and they were filming the Patriot advance scout in one of the suites in Cleveland. It was approved by the Browns. The film crew was wearing Patriot gear and clearly not posing as part of the Browns organization. Members of the Bengals staff saw the Patriots insignias and reported it to the league. The league office is doing what they always do, playing to the sensitivities of the public by appearing to thoroughly investigate instead of immediately stating what they already know. By the way, the film crew were contracted to produce the docu-series and are not part of the Patriot organization. They may not have done all of the notifications properly and I suspect that's what will come of it.

5-9 , our team does not deserve respect.

Here in Birmingham, AL they quit showing the Falcons 4 weeks ago. This was the 5th game in a row, no Falcons and the Saints weren't even playing. We got to watch a terrible Rams at Cowboys game. Thankfully I have Sirius NFL radio and as soon as the game ended it was available on NFL Game Pass.

If that's what you want to believe. Yet there they were videotaping the other teams sideline in clear violation of the rules.

Listening to the pregame/postgame statements, as well as Kyle's demeanor during the game, I think this was a very personal game for him (and us as well). I don't think there's any animosity really. But I think for both us and him this game represented a return to the super bowl. If you're into analytic psychology, you might argue say that Kyle, either consciously or unconsciously, already saw that an arc of redemption was going to play out in the collective psyche of this team, and that that force would be too great to overcome.

It's not what I want to believe, it's what was explained by Pat Kirwin on Sirius NFL Radio. I have no horse in that race but this seems to have taken on some conspiratorial mystique that is probably unwarranted. From what he said, they weren't filming the sideline, they were filming the Scout who was watching the Bengals. That's what advance scouts do.

Any one of the 60 thousand fans could use their phone and film the sidelines. Don't you think that if the Pats wanted to do that, they would just have a guy in the stands in plain clothes? It was the Bengals! That's the best argument for it being a nothing burger.

Half the teams in the NFL do something noteworthy each week and it doesn't get reported.

You have to be respected  and the thing we've been missing over the years is consistency when we get noticed.

The Opinion pieces are where you see if you're respected. The media types report on two types of teams.
1. big market/big following teams

2. Teams they can make projections on where they have a high likelihood of being right and therefore strengthening the perception they know what the are talking about.

Well, we aren't big market and if you were a writer, would you stake your reputation on us given our history?

Positive Consistency in big moments is how you get on the front page week in and week out. Once you have this and establish some positive history, you'll get to stay on the front page for a while, even in the tough years.

Falcons blew their chance for national respect when they completely **** the bed against the Bucs and Saints.

You got that right. If they went by relevance, the Cowboys would get less play than the Jaguars. How many times have the Cowboys made the playoffs, much less advanced deep into the playoffs in the last 20 years? The Falcons have them beat by a long shot on that front yet you would think the Cowboys were the NFC version of the Patriots if you just went by the press they get.

Atlanta Falcons playoff record 1998 - 2018.  17 Appearances. 8 wins and 9 losses. Advanced to the Conference Championship 4 times and the Super Bowl twice.

Dallas Cowboys playoff record 1998 - 2018. 12 Appearances. 2 wins and 10 losses. Never getting past the division round.

Jacksonville Jags playoff record 1998 -2018. 10 Appearances. 5 wins and 5 losses. Advanced to the Conference Championship twice.

This team has underachieved tremendously based on the perceived talent we have. Had this team not been expected to be in the mix, this may have been a story. Yet, this team that has a vet QB, stud WR, and various other decent players did what honestly shouldn't have even been a surprise. We've all said when on their game this team can run with anyone in the NFC. I personally wasn't surprised we beat them.

Wouldn’t it be something if this was a bit of us getting that part of ourselves back and this team reclaims it’s 2016 identity!?

No, I don’t believe it either, but it sounded great coming out!

Even though it does sound crazy, it's certainly possible. Confidence is big deal in football. I know all the players said they were past it in 2017 but we all know that was BS.  This win was about the closest thing you could get to closure for both the team and Matt Ryan. It was so obvious they wanted it, symbolically. And it could be the extra 1% of confidence they need to achieve their highest potential.

The excuse the Pats used for this Bengals incident was concocted 15+ years ago and documented in 2015 by ESPN, as a cover up for filming coaches signals.  If the NFL quickly dismisses this, it will be them wanting to protect the shield and not because there isn't enough credible information to warrant a legit investigation.

The highlighted section below is either incredibly ironic (as this was printed in 2015) or they were attempting to steal signals.  Either way, there is enough from that connection alone, to warrant an actual investigation.

https://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13533995/split-nfl-new-england-patriots-apart

"First, the Patriots had a detailed, efficient system for finding out opponents' plays. ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham describe a scene in Patriots coach Bill Belichick's office before a season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

"[A backup quarterback named John] Friesz was told that the Patriots had a tape of the Bucs' signals. He was instructed to memorize them, and during the game, to watch Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and tell [offensive coordinator Charlie] Weis the defensive play, which Weis would relay over the radio headset system to quarterback Drew Bledsoe."

Van Natta and Wickersham report that although the Patriots lost that game, they realized a "schematic" edge over other teams. They "streamlined the system," finding a more efficient way to note the plays and relay the information, cutting out the quarterbacks, with only a few people, including Belichick.

Soon, advanced scouts would be sent to the games of upcoming Patriots' opponents to film the play signals. The scouts would go undercover as media members, with media credentials listed under "Patriots TV" or "Kraft Productions" and were prepared with excuses of what to say they were filming if security asked."

Zero respect for beating the top 2 teams in the nfc.. and we battend the 3rd best team with our backup QB (seahawks with our backup)

Saying all that.... we are 5-9 and deserve no props because this is a what should/could have been story.

I won't lie... it makes this year worse to me... I know quinn is getting props bUT to me it makes that 1-7 start unforgivable in my eyes

Closure is a GREAT way to look at yesterday. Even I felt like there was something on the line more than a meaningless win to a lost season.
