Gunny Hartman
Remember the 1997 Falcons? I do. The season started badly but they made a run late and ended up 7-9. The team carried that momentum into the 1998 season and made it to the Superbowl. falconsd56, Peteshweddy, dawgsfan426 and 5 others
Osiruz
I cant wait for all this momentum to be seized and turned into something special very soon by around 2025 or sometime in the next decade. We've got 2 seasons worth of momentum, just gotta collect a few more.

The falcons went into the season feeling good and an early game against San Fran is what took us to the next level. The dirty birds were born. SirCzah
I am not a big believer in momentum, but the defense after the bye has reminded me of the late-90's Falcons defenses where they aren't great in any area but tenacious AF. A have been really proud of that group lately. rugger8, Chitown2ATL_Falcon, mikeg272 and 1 other
montanaman71
They won their last 3 last year to finish 7-9 as well. Didn't turn out so hot this year. I do hope you are right IamFRESCO1 and BirdGangATL

NCFalconfan
I remember that team well. Thing is, that team could run the ball and had a really **** fine defensive line (The Bomb Squad - Archambeau, Travis Hall, Dan Owens, and Chuck Smith). Anyone paying attention could see that the Falcons had some stuff cooking for next season. I do like what I'm seeing with the rooks on the right side of the line and the defense is undoubtedly getting better. The 2020 Falcons are gonna have to find a running game if we're gonna expect any form of success. mikeg272, aer2033 and JDaveG

Would like to see us get a back like Dobbins, Herrion or Akers in the draft. Keep Freeman but let’s put some fire to him and see if responds. Ghosts of Glanville
Slow your roll. . . But I do feel better about the mental state of the team now vs two months ago. They’ve shown fight since the bye

thanat0s
The only problem is, our cap situation is a huge stumbling block. Hopefully, there is a path through where we can improve, and not be forced to gut the roster.

Exactly .....that is what momentum is...the continuing of moving forward. We didn't do that....we decided to change all 3 coordinators as well as well as tinker with the entire defensive alignment. We could have easily had momentum carry into this year but some questionable decisions kept that from happening
dmite
2015 -> 2016 was another good example of momentum in Falcons favor.

Especially when you consider how up against the cap they will be this offseason. Hooper May or may not be here. Dline will probably have more losses than additions. It always amuses me when people talk about momentum after a 6 month break and at least 1/3 of the roster is turned over.
Spts1
Zero similarities. The 1997 team controlled the ball on offense and was fundamentally sound across the board...
mqg96
Well, it doesn't necessarily mean the Falcons will finish strong and end up having a great year next season. The Falcons play an AFC team next week, and we close out the season for the 2nd year in a row in Tampa Bay against a Bucs team who's been hot late in the year, so we could still finish 5-11. Key note, the Falcons do play the AFC West next season. The previous 4 times we played the AFC West (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016) were special seasons. However, those 4 seasons were in the Georgia Dome while being in the NFC South at the same time. We are in Mercedes Benz Stadium now so that might change next season. We have to see, and our cap space doesn't look good either.

Who cares? At this point we are just doing stupid falcon stuff, as this franchise loves to do by shooting itself in the foot. Many of the players and coaches wont be here next season. Last year's momentum turned into a heap of steaming dung.
