I thought it was the other way around. Ryan wanted the job so much he was in tears when he found out he wasn't the choice.

Huh?  I never heard anything like that.  What I remember is, we thought we had him, but at the last minute he turned us down, and took the job at somewhere like Miami?
Anyway, it's all good....just water over the dam, now ---

LMAO, yeah if y’all never want back-to-back winning seasons please hire Rivera. We’d love nothing more.

Then maybe get the OC from the Saints to be our OC/ASST HC.  Weaken two of our opponents and strengthen ourselves.

Yeah, you can put down your crackpipe because y’all aren’t getting Carmichael. ;)

In all seriousness, as a Saints fan, tell us about Carmichael from your perspective. How good is he really and how much is it Payton?

He has the same problem Quinn has... hired because he was supposedly a great defensive mind, yet the defense was actually pretty terrible on his watch lately.

Carolina's defense is ranked 22nd overall.
Atlanta is 23rd.

Carolina's defense is 14th against the pass.
Atlanta is 26th.

Carolina's defense has given up 43 pass plays of 20+ yards
Atlanta has given up 45.

Carolina's defense is 29th against the run.
Atlanta is 17th.

Carolina's defense has given up 18 rushing plays of 20+ yards.
Atlanta has given up 10.

It's seriously a wash.

Can we compare multiple years? One year can always be an anomaly or just a bad year in general. Nobody's perfect.

Panthers only had more than 7 wins in three of Rivera's nine years there. That is terrible.

Really not sure why you all think this dude is something special.

Maybe he'd be serviceable as a DC, but absolutely not as HC.

This I agree with. Bring him on as our DC and I would be satisfied.

He’s a really good coach but he has the personality of a wet paper box. He’s not exactly the kind of guy to be fulfilling the rigorous media obligations being a HC entails, which is why I think he’s been passed over when he’s interviewed for HC vacancies in the past.

He comes off as the kind of guy that is more than content with doing his work behind the curtain and let others soak up the limelight, not that type-A personality you want to see in a head coach.

There are segments of his career here where he was calling the plays and he did very well, but ultimately Payton calls them most of the time.

Thank you. I appreciate the response. It’s always good to get information from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Thank you my friend.

Why would we want a coach that we routinely beat like drum? Rivera couldn't even string back to back winning seasons.

Carolina's best years under Rivera came where they ran a gimmick offense that basically got their QB killed.

No thanks to Ron coming to Atlanta.

Couldn't agree more.

I feel like those of us living in NC seem to have a much better grasp than most folks here on who the dude really is.

No problem, friend. I can be useful around here sometimes other than just to rile y’all up.
