At least he runs the football and would have  axe to grind with Carolina. Hmmm I'd rather have Rivera than McCarthy.

Absolutely. Perhaps not my first choice but I would be OK with it. Then maybe get the OC from the Saints to be our OC/ASST HC.  Weaken two of our opponents and strengthen ourselves.

Need an OC or HC that will get the most out of the years Ryan and Julio have left.

My sentiments exactly...but Ron wouldn't be the worst.  I am super gunshy though coming off back to back DCs.  At least Rivera has done it before, he is a known commodity as a HC.

He wouldn't be the worst. The thing is Blank has never not hired a first time head coach. I guess we will see.

If Dan Quinn is fired. he should be first choice. He has great defenses. We keep the core of the team and build off of it

He has the same problem Quinn has... hired because he was supposedly a great defensive mind, yet the defense was actually pretty terrible on his watch lately.

Carolina's defense is ranked 22nd overall.
Atlanta is 23rd.

Carolina's defense is 14th against the pass.
Atlanta is 26th.

Carolina's defense has given up 43 pass plays of 20+ yards
Atlanta has given up 45.

Carolina's defense is 29th against the run.
Atlanta is 17th.

Carolina's defense has given up 18 rushing plays of 20+ yards.
Atlanta has given up 10.

It's seriously a wash.

This year has been rough no doubt, which is probably why he is gone.  He has led up some solid defenses though during his time.  I'm not advocating for him necessarily, but overall they had some really good defenses there.  I'd be thrilled with really good.  We've been awful.

Panthers only had more than 7 wins in three of Rivera's nine years there. That is terrible.

Really not sure why you all think this dude is something special.

Maybe he'd be serviceable as a DC, but absolutely not as HC.

Yes, if that stat is true, that's not very good.  Not even as good as I thought.  I know, he DID take the Panties to the SB once, but lost (same as us).  And seems like Carolina won a couple of Playoff games, too, while he was there (we won more).  He also had a winning record in the regular season.
But I'm not that impressed with him as a HC....and when I think about the possibility, it just gives me a bad taste in my mouth --- lol...

Now I reserve the right to change my mind, but, right now, McCarthy would be my choice, if DQ is indeed fired ---- He's a SB Winner, with a wealth of experience and is offensive-minded, which is what we need at this point of Matt and Julio's career!!!

This team definitely needs a succesful vet coach with experience and not some young hotshot. Rivera, McCarthy and Rex Ryan would all be solid hires. Any of those hires and we would immediately see turnaround next year in results.

Rex Ryan?  LOL!!!!!!!

Ryan went to the AFCCG twice with Mark freaking Sanchez and has always put together decent defenses. I don't think in year 5 of his tenure reporters will be asking how he plans to get his players to tackle better

Well, he did have his time in the sun, but never won the Big One.  Seems like, one time when we were between Head coaches, we wined him & dined him, and in the end he flat turned us down!  So, I don't think we'd go down that road again.  Besides, he always struck me as a "loud mouth, blow hard", who seemed to thrive on controversy, and who's time has come and gone --- sorry, but that's just my opinion...

I thought it was the other way around. Ryan wanted the job so much he was in tears when he found out he wasn't the choice.
