Falcons should look at Chris Petersen

Here is another name that the Falcons should at least kick the tires on. He got burned out and frustrated at Washington, but might be lured to the NFL with the right situation, which the Falcons have.  I like Petersen because his offense is similar to Sarkisian's and Shanahan's.   He uses deception to get his skill players out in open space to operate.  This is done by run pass options,  double tight ends with a bunch, 4x1 formations, and uses running back counters and other deceptions.  The last few years his offenses have sputtered due to personnel at Washington, but given the right players,  Petersen is one of the best.  He took Boise State to the Fiesta bowl and took Washington to 4 straight big bowls.   If the Falcons look toward the offense as the way to rebuild and hire a offensive guy,  he should get a look...

Love Petersen.  He's really on the cutting edge with a lot of stuff.  He's one of the few college coaches I really think could translate to the NFL, but you can't overlook that he stepped down because he was burned out, citing anxiety and stress.

That's the problem.  He's also a different cat.  I don't think he likes dealing with the media, and all of the hoopla that would surround an NFL Team.

Yeah, if he couldn't handle the "anxiety & stress" in college ball, he might as well forget coaching in the NFL --- which would stand for "Not For Long" in his case... :(

I'd freakin' love it. A guy that could truly utilize our talent and get our run game going.

He may have gotten burnt out on college, but the NFL is different. He's not recruiting 365 days a year and the whole season isn't a wash w/ a single loss. Even Pete Carroll seems to insinuate that college ball is more stressful.

“The college thing is really, really demanding in terms of the constant recruiting pressure and strain,’’ Carroll said. “It’s really the strain of it. It just doesn’t go away. You’re on the next year always anyway. It’s just an ongoing process. That’s one part of it.”

The other, Carroll said, is handling expectations, especially when coaching at universities with track records of great success such as USC or Washington.

“In college ball, where we were, you lose a game and it’s like you lost eight,’’ Carroll said. “(It’s like) you almost went through a losing streak. It’s a little different in this league in that regard. It’s hard to win every game in this league, obviously. One team has done it ever. How many teams have lost one game? That doesn’t happen like that either. It’s a little bit different in that expectation. I think that mentally, it’s a little different."

I wouldnt be surprised if Carroll Tries to pull him onto that staff.

In my opinion Peterson is already signed to go somewhere, he just walked on about $15 million saying he was burned out. Yea right, at 55 you  dont walk on $15 million, no way. He's already got things in the works for his next gig, could even be here, who knows. But remember Koetter coached at Boise State so.....................

Peterson is actually good....Koetter not so much

Probably the most creative offensive playcaller in college football and by all accounts a great leader. Daniel Jeremiah polled 5 unnamed NFL execs and asked them which college coach would make the best NFL head coach and 2/5 said Chris Peterson.

If we go the with college ranks Peterson would be top of my list, but I suspect we'll be looking for a guy with NFL experience.

That’s a good article.

the college guy I would want (Shaw) also got 2 of 5 nods. Offensive guy, no nonsense, runs NFL style offense, has NFL experience, smash mouth philosophy.

Peterson would be a solid OC option if he wasn’t burned out.  For OC, give me the young, hungry up an d coming coach.  Joe Brady.  He schemes guys open very much like Shanny
