ATLANTA FALCONS NEED A VETERAN CB!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday in a conversation, something was mentioned that was gold.  Thought about it awhile. ..Thanks Shin zu 7 falcon.

Whatever we do in this draft is anyone's guess right now, and no matter what happens in this draft. ...we MUST fix this defense first ,with Grady Jarrett! !!

I'm asking the fans Who's available for 2020, Free Agent Corners? I strongly and firmly believe,  this position Requires a great prime talent for us to succeed on defense!

Feel strongly also, Trufant could be gone and we don't have anymore time for developing a Young CB Next season!

Who could be had off-season ? This team really needs a lock down Cb next year to kick things off on our defense!  It's a winning formula right now!! Lol promise!

I would say bring in a free agent CB would be a good idea. But Trufant might still be around depending on coaching that is brought in.. we have some talent that was drafted this year!!!

Now the scheme we run doesnt make since to me. Mainly lining up 10 to 15 yards off a receiver... or zones where people fall back into with not a single receiver is running to... even not doubling up on the others teams top wideouts... every team does it to use! Heck saints was doubling Julio and Ridley in the in zones.

All around this team it seems we dont help out other players... like offense why dont we chip the defensive ends... they do it to our guys and they get way less sacks.. no double coverage help..

Scheme is a big factor. I've been critical of Trufant in Zone, but when he plays man, he's doing good. Same can be said about Oliver and Sheffield.

Trying to understand why we cut Tru to save cap space, then sign a high priced CB in UFA?

Tru hasn’t been playing bad since coming back healthy. We just need to ditch the soft zone crap.

Lower front end cap hits then cut him when he becomes a casualty. Take that with a grain of sea salt

I hear ya. Couldn’t we just restructure his deal then? Maybe not cause how far into it we are.

would be a waste of time this far in IMO.  Now personally, I would let him play out next season and cut him the following season. 1.4 mill dead cap, little over 11 mill in actual savings. I looked at that about 2 weeks ago so I may or may not have looked at that right.

I agree that a vet CB should be a priority, if for nothing else then for the competition aspect. Lots of good players at DE that likely won't be re-signed either. LB is thinner, but there are some great players hitting FA. Take care of two of the three, then go BPA in the draft with a focus in our first four picks on S, C, RB, and the one that wasn't filled...that's how I'd do it.

Depends on the money we free up though. I see Sambrailo, Carpenter, Freeman, Schaub, and a couple other potential cuts. Neal is a big one, not sure what his future looks like. Tru might be traded, and Matthews could too - they were exploring it beforehand, and they're good enough players that other teams would take the dead money. Not a fan of it myself, but I could understand it.

I think the team should have enough to re-sign guys like Davison, Clayborn, etc, maybe Hooper, and then 2/3 of what I mentioned before. Key is bringing in the right guys, not overpriced bums like TD is fond of doing. It's fine to overpay a bit, but there's no reason to give Jamon Brown 6 mil a year.

If that's the case, I'll take one more year of tru while Sheff keeps progressing. Then pay a vet 6-9 and invest the savings elsewhere

I agree we need a proven and still capable vet but first we need a scheme and direction then add said vet(s).  Right now we have a mess w no direction.  We cannot develop young talent into future stars until we know who we are philosophically and staffing wise.

Love the input guys! !

So basically we could keep him another year and some don't like it , like others.

I keep hearing. ..We have no direction right now, and that's absolutely true. No coaching. Cap hit and so on. But here's my thing. ...

No matter who's coaching next year, we're always dang reluctant to pull the trigger on a guy that succeeds somewhere else.  If our team has any desire to win and truly wanting to turn it around. ...We gotta stop doing that!

Not also saying over pay, but on a great player maybe? At least get our direction on defense.  IMO, Trufant won't ever be the same after his first couple of seasons. We need to move on, but yes,  keep him AND sign that CB  whoever that may be.

Scheme,  yes I agree....sucked under this coach. That's why we must fire! He'll be fine....it's about us now!!!  Thanks guys!

If that’s your objective, draft Jeff Okudah.  Dude is a shut down corner

Matt Miller's Scouting Notebook: Jeff Okudah Is Top CB Talent Since Jalen Ramsey

MATT MILLER
OCTOBER 11, 2019

What if I told you there was a Jalen Ramsey-type cornerback prospect roaming the halls at Ohio State? That's what NFL scouts believe the Buckeyes have in junior Jeff Okudah.

"Pat Pete. Ramsey. Whoever you want to compare him to, go ahead," said one area scout tasked with scouting Ohio State. "He's better than any dude that's come out of there."

That's high praise for a school that rightfully claims the DBU title.

What makes Okudah so special? It's partially his athleticism and size, both of which are ideal for an outside cornerback who plays in man coverage. But one Ohio State staffer said he's "the most mature and self-motivated cornerback out of the recent ones" they've had. Mature and self-motivated are two words not often used to describe cornerbacks, who can be high-maintenance and attention-seeking.

"We're talking about a kid who enrolled early and was a scholar athlete as a true freshman," said the area scout. "At most schools he starts right away, but [Ohio State] had Denzel Ward and Kendall Sheffield in there. He's the most naturally gifted cornerback I've seen since Ramsey—but he's not going to worry you with his mouth."

Some grade him the #1 prospect in this draft.  Shutdown corner on a 5 year rookie contract is about as good as it gets outside of a QB on the same contract

I don't doubt that at all! I see him as a huge star in the league!  Would love to trade some dead weight for him lol.

If he around. ...Maybe we pull the trigger 12? Gotta start somewhere in defense for Ryan!!!

It has gotten too expensive to do anything in the NFL (sign high level FAs and trade up in the draft). Sign a top level CB will cost you a ton of money and possibly a ton of draft pics. If they don't pan out, then the team is on the hook for the money along with cap hit plus lost depth due to trading pics. The Falcons already don't have any cap space due to dead money. With the right scheme and a pass rush Tru should be okay. I'd worry about the D-line and the O-line first.

If Okuda is the best DB since Ramsey And beat out of OSU in a long time, it is tempting. Problem is there is media that say this every year, about almost all top players. Ward was pretty **** good at OSU. (And drafted 4th overall).

Just hope he stays healthier than Ward and has the officials in his pocket like Lattimore.
