Ulbrich and Morris Play Calling Was Amazing today

Recommended Posts

Blank should have hired Kyle Shanahan as the HC back when he hired Quinn.  Everyone would've hated it, at least at first but we would've likely not tanked on offense in the SB vs the Pats and we wouldn't be ready to burn him at the stake like everyone is ready to do to Quinn now.

Looked like Quinn's d. It wasn't the same play calling...

This wreaked of Quinn all game long,  soft zone,  hardly any man coverage, very little blitzing.

It was Ulbrich vs the Cardinals, Rams, and Seahawks. It was him today too. And Morris on those awful 3rd downs. Keep your head in the dirt. It's players showing up when they feel like it.

Honestly as weird is this is going to be to say and i don't see how 1 person can have such a drastic role in what happens on a defense.  But when kazee plays even just avg to above avg the defense seems to do well.  But when he misses so many assignments or leaves guys open non stop it makes the rest of the defense look really bad because it keeps drives going or we give up huge chunk plays.    I wasn't as much on board for a early round safety a few weeks ago as i am now.  i didn't think he was causing that big of a problem himself but he is and it's making everyone else on the defense who are doing their job most of the time look way worse i feel.

Some people have been trying to say FS is the most important player on this defense for a while now. That totally falls on both Quinn and TD though.

IDK if this is sarcastic or serious, but that's weird that you would bring up making him the HC, but he was not considered for a HC position with the exception of Buffalo.  Plus, he wasn't even that good if you look at his numbers as an OC.  Now I understand he has proven this year and in 2016, but I think that was a collaberation of talent game planning, as well as DEF success.  He was passed by in 2016 by buffalo and immediately signed as our OC.

He and Matt were terrible and fans were calling for his head after 2015.  Then he was successful in 2016 and until the SB, we finally had faith in him.  Then he became the scapegoat for the SB loss.  He left, and didn't find success in SF for two years.

Now him being an OC, he displayed high scoring in 2012 and 2016 as a top coordinator for those teams.  BUT, when you look at his teams in 3 years as SF HC, he was bottom half in every statistic until this year when his team is based on DEFENSE and top running game.  His passing offense is only top 10 in passing touchdowns, and with the defense giving them turnovers, it's more likely to increase such stats.

I wouldn't want him as our HC, he was a really good OC, but this team had an offense before and had an offense after he left.

The same can be said of our defense.  We had a really good one in 2016, and again in 2017, but then dropped off huge after that.

Quinn has lost direction of this team I feel, and next HC should learn to balance both sides of the ball accordingly with whoever he hires as coordinators, which I feel KS has done, but his team is not overpowering teams with his offense.  His defense is keeping other teams off and giving their offense shorter fields more consistently.

I think we went zone to remove the  possibility of Jameis running for 100 on us. But man spy would have been a better option imo. We just can't play zone well. Never could as far as I can remember. Never will from what I can tell.

Well at least we found out Ulbrich and Morris might not be the answer we thought they might be either.  Give it another game or two to see if they can figure out what's wrong this time.  Still want everyone gone at the end of the season to be honest.  5 years is a long time to fix the defense.  Best year for defense was 2017 and that was 3 seasons ago.  Been going down hill since.

This is something i actually agree with in this specific scheme quinn and company run.  I have always thought the FS was the QB and leader of this defense and is why i was and am still a fan of Rico on the team.  He is a very intelligent guy who plays his spot well.  Now with that said i also see him doing quite well at SS right now which to me makes it easy to go after a early round FS if need be now.  Then if we do keep neal i would slide him to our cover LB because he is more than strong and big enough to play it in a hybrid type role and can even come in on 3 safety sets.

What should have happened was lefleur promoted to OC.
