Could the Saints go 1-5 while we go 6-0 and give us the division?

65 posts in this topic

For us to win the division, the Saints would need to go 1-5 (or 0-6) to finish 2019 while we go 6-0.

Their remaining schedule:

vs Carolina - could Kyle Allen have a rebound game?

at Atlanta - under our control and would have the tiebreaker if both of us finish 9-7

vs. San Francisco - certainly a hard game and maybe Shanahan owes us one?

vs. Indianapolis - they beat us and they are actually at the top of the AFC South

at Tennessee - a road game but might be their easiest one remaining

at Carolina - I really fear us wishing this week that Carolina is not playing 2nd string

Carolina also has to not go 6-0 during their remaining games but we would give them 1 loss in a few weeks when we beat them and they could still go 4-1 in their other 5 games and still lose the division to us on tiebreakers.  They still have Seattle and Indianapolis to possibly provide the one loss (or lose one to New Orleans as long as New Orleans loses its other 5).

What would really be great is if the NFC South finishes as a 3-way tie at 9-7 between Carolina, New Orleans and us but only us actually getting to the playoffs (NFC West runner up-Seattle/San Francisco and NFC North runner-up-Green Bay/Minnesota would be wild cards)

So you’re sayin there’s a chance!

Curious what others thought of their remaining schedule and which games they will win/lose?

I really fear they are going to go 2-4 (win Carolina once, Tennessee) and win the division 10-6, but I also would not have predicted them to go 5-0 with Brees missing.

Well, I was just playing with ESPN's Playoff Machine and it would take an act of God, but there is a chance the Falcons make the playoffs at 9-7 as a wild card. It would also take the Eagles, Bears, Vikings and Rams finishing at 9-7 too. Somehow the tiebreaks would put the Falcons in the #6 seed in this scenario playing at the #3 seed Saints in the playoffs.

I think they may loose three more. San Fran, us, Colts. But they could loose four total.

Im jus not sure because they could run the table potentially too

This would be my dream scenario, squeak in blazing hot, smoke the taints in their house and roll to a Lombardi at their expense.....I better go clean up after that type of erotica....

Also, if we can knock off Tampa.....how jacked up will we be for Thanksgiving primetime!!!  Someone’s gonna slip up down the stretch.....I just feel that a cpl teams will.  Don’t know who but it happens every year.  I’m gonna take it week to week and enjoy each win  as we begin our march back to dignity.  Anything more would be gravy after the unmitigated disaster we’ve endured first half of season.

No way the Saints finish with less than 10 wins. The Falcons are not going to the playoffs.

You’re likely correct but I could see us somehow (if we can run table...IF) sneaking in as WC.  Someone usually slips up.

I would have been far more hopeful if they would have lost today.

The chances that they could have gone 2-4 over the last 6 weeks is significantly higher than them going 1-5.  They are pretty much guaranteed atleast a W in the Car split as well as a W between Ind or Ten, if we are being overly optimistic.

The Falcons would need more than just "Someone" to slip up. The Falcons would not only need to run the table, but (as of today) they'd also need the Vikings who are 8-3, and the Seahawks who are 8-2 to completely collapse; meaning they can't win another game as both hold a tie-breaker over Atlanta. Then, you have the Eagles and Rams, both of which have a better record than the Falcons to keep losing as well. This scenario will never even come close to playing out. It's not even realistic to think the Falcons can win out.

Wonder what it would take for us to wriggle in at 8-8??

Vikings already have 8 wins and the Falcons lost to them.

Seahawks already have 8 wins and the Falcons lost to them.  49er already have 9 wins.

Basically the Saints have to lose every game from here on out.
