Well I learned something today

I actually had that conversation today...about Morris being HC and Ulbrich being DC.. I'm not a homer ...I try and call it like I see it...and to me ..its very telling that this team is playing like this when he essentially takes his hands off it..

I said early in the season Quinn was asking players to do too much and not playing them to their strengths...I was told it was the players...

Where are those posters now..

I was one of those who agreed with you and echoed your sentiment. As I have said several times over the course of the season: Fans underrate sound coaching and overrate star talent. You know this when you hear: "Such and such player(s) carried such and such head coach to the playoffs". . . . comments like these. Our issues this season were always systemic. We have much of the core intact from the SB run. The fact that people say, " . . . but Kyle Shanahan" only reinforces that sound coaching is the key and proves my point.

It seems our staff has finally figured something out.

I don't know what to tell you bro. Your mind is made up, that's your choice. I choose to let this season play out.

You are correct. The searing humiliation of the 1-7 start HAS made up my mind. And even if the season plays out to the tune of an 8-0 second half (unlikely but possible), then that tune is a 9-7 record, which is a huge disappointment, as proven by 2017's 9-7 record.

Furthermore, even IF that pans out, even IF we go 8-0 in second half and 9-7 overall, then that turnaround will have been triggered by our so-called "defensive guru" head coach being disassociated with the defense. If our team nosedives when our "defensive guru" head coach actually runs the defense, and soars to the dizzying height of absolute mediocrity only and specifically when he is no longer running the defense, then what exactly is his positive contribution? Slogans? Memes?

Might as well let a Facebook app be HC, and let Ulbrich and Morris keep on keepin' on.

2017 we were 10 and 6.

I stand corrected.

However, if 10-6 is "disappointing", what does that make 9-7?

I thought we were 10-6 that year, but couldn't remember. I mean I don't think being a Julio drop away from the NFC championship game a huge disappointment. But I guess we had different expectations that year. Some folks thought we were going to go 16-0 do who knows

I didn't say 10 and 6 was disappointing, you did.  So you tell me.

We have 2 defensive coordinators and a cheerleader on the sidelines pretending to be a HC.

First off moving Morris to the offensive side of the ball has proven to be one of the dumbest moves by Quinn.

If Ulbrich is calling 1st and 2nd downs and Morris calling 3rd, Morris needs to be promoted to HC and Ulbrich to DC immediately. The D is playing out of his mind all Quinn does is continue to never understand when to call a time out and high five their work. I would love to see what Morris could do as a interim HC with all 53.

IIRC Morris wanted to move to that side of the ball...rounding out his skills on both sides of the ball. dont think he wants to stay an asst forever....this makes his resume that much better...

Every word you said is true. And yet---.

As soon as Cowardly Clueless Quinn lets Ulbrich and Morris start running the defense:

  • Penalties go way down.
  • Intensity goes way up.
  • Sacks are up.
  • Pressures are up.
  • Forced turnovers are up.
  • The offense plays within the system due to not being terrified of a non-scoring drive.
  • The offense can run the ball in quarters 2-4 due to not being down by 17 points in the first quarter.

This all happened EXACTLY and SPECIFICALLY when Cowardly Clueless Quinn was out of the defensive play-calling picture. This is too much, too many changes, too many BIG changes, to be a coincidence.

It's almost like it's rigged lol

The irony is that Morris stated that his time on offense vastly improved his abilities to read the offense and understanding how they attack defenses... so... no moving morris to offense was not a waste, just should have been switched back to defense this offseason

Pretending to be a Head Coach?  Better rethink that one and here's a reason why.  DISCIPLINE.  We only had THREE penalties today of which one was actually bogus.  We've cut way down on the mental mistakes.

This is a massive point that people aren't talking about enough.

Seriously. Folks act like a HC does nothing. Let's not act like 2017 didn't happen. Quinn has proven he's a winning HC without shanahan. Maybe he stays, maybe he's fired, but for now he's been given the chance to right the ship

Pretending to be a HC? I love how if you don't call plays, you are a joke HC. Mike Smith didn't call plays. John Harbaugh doesn't call plays. Ron Rivera doesn't call plays.

Also this. This is the first time Belichick has called plays in ages and no one thought he was a joke before this year. "Oh Beli just rode McDaniels and Patricia to the SB tbh"

Tell the truth.  Were you one of the guys calling Morris "Radio" when he was HC of TB?

Almost none of them do.  And only Belichick took on the task of full time DC & HC.  That’s a tough thing to do

It’s crazy to think how bad we’d been compared to how good we’ve been last 2 Games.

It’s so annoying how long these players have been underperforming/not been in a position to succeed.

Some of yall clamoring for morris to take over as head coach seem to have forgotten his colossal failure as a head coach in the past.

No I haven’t but what Morris and Ulbrich are doing is remarkable. That’s why I said I would love to see him in the interim to see what he could do as HC. Then we could make a more informed decision in the off season.

All I know before he and Ulbrich took over the defense we had won 1 ballgame and with this talent it was sickening watching these guys underachieving.

I didn’t even want to watch yesterday I tuned in because I wanted to see if this was a fluke and throughly enjoyed watching the defense I thought we were going to see destroy another division rival.

I loved the aggressiveness on 3rd down so many years watching other teams convert on 3rd and long because we play soft. If Morris has a hand in this turnaround and he does heck yes give him a shot. Maybe he’s learned a thing or two.

Exactly. And like Francis said, Billy B just took them on. Matt Patricia was the DC for a few years. But only DQ is a coward... Smh

The thing I do blame Quinn for was the switch to odd man fronts.  We are a one-gap, attacking defense that is meant to read quickly, swarm & attack.  We don’t have the horses to run a two gap system in the middle.

And as we’ve always known, this defense is much different when playing with a lead

It's very surprising that Morris hasn't been poached over the past few years to be a HC somewhere. In fact I am amazed that he hasn't even gotten an interview. He's a very good coach. Remember how excited we all got about Manuel after 2017? I'm not sure about Ulbrich yet, but let's see what happens.

2017 and 2018 say "no--- just no." The only year of unqualified, unquestioned success was the year Kyle Shanahan carried Cowardly Clueless Quinn's 26th ranked defense to the Super Bowl. And Cowardly Clueless Quinn's 26th ranked defense allowed Shanahan's one monumentally stupid mistake to cost us that Super Bowl. If Cowardly Clueless Quinn's 26th ranked defense had gotten ONE FRIKKING STOP in the fourth quarter--- we win the Super Bowl despite Shanahan's colossal blunder on ONE FRIKKING PLAY CALL.

BS, 2016 was not that great until Quinn took over the defense after the KC game when we lost off of a missed 2 pt conversion ran back by Eric Berry. We were 7-5 at that point. People act like we dominated that whole season.

We got hot at the end when Quinn took over and we ran the table until the 4th quarter of the superbowl. The offense kept scoring and the defense started forcing way more turnovers, and getting stops. I didn't see us making it to the super bowl that year until we dominated Seattle in the divisional round

Very true. He misread the tweaks the scheme needed. They needed more talent, not a shift in scheme philosophy. Now that they are back to what they are comfortable doing, they look good again.

Anyone have eyes on EXACTLY when we stopped run 3-4 and Bear front defense looks in games? It was right around that Seattle game.

I still believe that as soon as we ditched the 3-4 looks and went pure 4-3, the defense turned it around. Not claiming merits of one or the other. Just assigning a point in time when things changed for this defense.

I will say that yes DQ made some horrible decisions over the years so that is all on him. But to say the guy is a cheerleader is just asinine. He knows how to coach and play good D. His issues is trust and he trusted the wrong people on his defense to deliver and they did not. It took 8 weeks but he made the changes and now you are seeing it, what his defense would look like with competent coaching. I bet he was overwhelmed being the HC and DC, made some changes and now we are seeing it pay off. DQ is a **** of a Dline coach and the past 2 weeks should show that as well. I say blame the man, but at least admit he is capable of change and improvement, he didnt suddenly forget how to coach, man.

He's a cheerleader.

People like Crawford & Bsiley are starting to flash again.  The stunts are getting home.  Love it when Clayborn is on the weak side and Takk & Vic lune up together on the strong side.  So much speed to deal with.

And can the mini-Predator, Clayborn, get some love.  Dude has been an assassin
