To tank, or not to tank, that is the ????

Recommended Posts

What is going on with this team? What has happened where we are playing at a higher level at a time when it really doesn't matter with the season?

I know I'll get plenty of smart *** answers from people but I want someone thoughtful to explain to me what is the point in going .500, missing the playoffs, and getting a middle-of-the-road draft pick.

Is this just a way for us to stay mediocre year after year? You know if we have a winning streak but miss the playoffs Arthur won't make any changes with the coaching staff. Changes that IMO need to be made at this point. Will finishing the season strong carry over next year?

I want to win a SB. If my team doesn't have a chance this year then I want them to get the best players possible so they can win next year. I just don't see how finishing middle of the pack accomplishes that.

As frustrating as it was last year to rattle off 3 meaningless wins to go from a top 5 pick to 16, if we win out at 9-7 there may be a chance we sneak into the playoffs. Could be the greatest story in NFL history to redeem the worst collapse in NFL history. I know this is wishful thinking but could you imagine if that actually happened?

Now does anyone have something insightful to say to explain to me where is the advantage of getting a lower draft pick?

Our team is way, way too good to tank. I know it hasn't looked like it, but you don't tank when you have a healthy Julio Jones and Matt Ryan. With this offense we should pretty much always be able to stay in games.

All these tankers just sound like bandwagon fans to me. Go watch whatever team is hot right now if you don't like us winning. Or ****, go watch the Bengals if you wanna watch a team tank.

Tanking is a figment of fan imagination.  A failing coach does not want to tank, his GM does not want to tank and players know that their play goes on their resume so they don't tank.  There is no tanking.  We found what appears to be working on defense (plays and personnel) and that's all we probably really needed to do but it took us a while to find it.

And there's the smart *** answer I was waiting for. Thanks for being thoughtful.

Ok ill play. What other profession in life rewards you to not even try at your job? These guys get paid to entertain, intentionally losing games is nor entertaining. Beating your Division opponents however is quite entertaining.

There is a question. They play to win a championship.

You have to win games to do that correct?

So you're saying if they win a few the rest of the year they will win the SB?

To even think about winning a SB you have to make the playoffs. To make the playoffs you have to win enough games to get in.

The key thing here is to win and see what happens.

Well I'm not a bandwagon fan. I'm a fan that wants my team to win a Superbowl. The debate can be made to tank so your team gets better players to have a better chance of winning a SB next year. Casual fans want their team to win any given Sunday. I want my team to win the big one, plain and simple.

I've seen this team win plenty and lose plenty. The one game I want them to win they havn't yet. If we were crap this year just to win the SB next year no one would have anything to say.

‘A chance’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.

More like winning Powerball for a billion dollars kind of chance.  Sure it could happen.  It could also rain squid.

i like what I’m seeing but the Falcons dug a hole too deep.

Only pros I can think of that are paid to intentionally lose are wrestlers. But I get it's scripted. People are entertained when the wrestlers lose intentionally.

Edit: and the team that played against the Globetrotters...
