No to Burrow, and not because I don’t like Burrow. Build up the team (esp. OL) so Ryan can benefit now and the next QB can come into a situation where he can succeed immediately. I am for a guy in round 3+ to groom for 2-5 years though.

Brady got to be Brady because he was drafted into a great team that didn’t need a QB right away, and already built a great team around Bledsoe.

i repeat, build the team so the next guy can succeed instead of drafting a QB first, which guarantees a top 5 pick or highly paid MVP caliber QB is on the bench.

We signed 2 guards, drafted an OT, OG, and signed a center and LT. In defense we drafted 2 dts, and 2 des high. Theres only so much building you can do on the lines. At some point you have to recognize that Ryan will probably not be here by the time we have the right personnel to make another run and get his replacement. You can trade Ryan for picks or maybe even some thorough breds.

In a vacuum you are of course right.  Ryan is still the strength of the team. Probably will be for another two years.

But our CAP may prevent us from fielding a SB roster in the next two years.  Drafting Burrow is gone with an eye on 2022.  Ryan would start next year and then be traded for a 1st.  The CAP clears out a year later and then build a SB defense

This is the dumbest thing I have read in a while. To trade Ryan and get under the cap Falcons will have to get rid of half the roster. How is this setting up for SB in next two years.

That's fair enough but he's been meh his entire career and then blows up his last year. We've seen this show before and they flame out in the league more times than not. I feel bad for whatever team takes him.

He should of transferred from Ohio State sooner than what he did (last season). Sitting behind JT Barrett for 2 year slowed his development.

Another thing to consider here is how they public would take this. Blank and the GM (TD or not) are going to take some serious heat if they take a QB with a player like Young on the board. Trading Ryan could also outrage some fans. It’s a risky decision business wise

Eh, just let him replace Brees or Brady for the next 5 or 6 years; win a couple trophies for good coaches and teams. We can’t put it all together with him anyway. 2016 proved that.

Just no on wasting a high first on qb

Idk man. Mayfield is already better than Ryan; and he beat him as a rookie! NFL.com put him as a top 50 player; passed Ryan and Watson. Not even a full season as a rook and already passed Matt. We can upgrade Ryan so easily. If we got TT a few years ago and let Ryan walk? We’d be SB favorites. We coulda signed Mack from the Raiders and we’d have a top 7 Defense right now!

Lets slow down on anointing the 1 yr wonder

Easy. We can finally get Trevor Lawrence as he falls instead. Then, next year we’ll trade up with all them picks for Ryan to get Fields!

What’s better than 1 potential franchise QB? TWO FRANCHISE QBs!!!

Saints have 3 this season alone. That’s clearly the difference between Saints/Falcons! We need more Qbell!!930BEAAC-2C63-4E67-B678-33D02AB69841.jpeg.c7dd4f067cf1bdffae9d600edb86dd1b.jpeg

When is the last time a team had a QB the caliber of Ryan and even considered one with top 5 pick?

i seriously don’t know...if there is one I would like to know for my memory bank.

edit: Kurt Warner is the only argument I can think of, but he didn’t have a good career in NYG, he got benched actually and most thought his career was over.

To play Devil’s Advocate, the great QB’s don’t let their team suck so bad they draft In the  top 3.  I don’t blame Ryan for this, but it’s a fact. How many three wins seasons have Brady or manning or Favre or Elway struggled through?

Easy. Falcons Defense is historically bad this year. Not exaggerating.

Still no run game.

And, merrygoround at OC while we still can’t field anything more than a solid D once in a blue moon.

What Brady Defense has EVER been as bad as 2018 or 2019 Falcons D?

...

......

..............................

Worst year we’ve had before now with Ryan was Smith’s last season in 2014; 6-10.

I am a big fan of devils advocate argument, and agree I t’s a valid point, I thought it myself TBH. But aside from the first 2 games, what more could Ryan have done? How many of these QBs have had defenses giving up 30ppg+ on average?

I guess my rebuttal would be to ask if any of those teams have ever been as bad as this Falcons team aside from QB. The guy was leading the NFL in yards and TDs before getting hurt after all.

Manning had a 3-13 season and a 6-10. Happens when you have the worst defense in the league. Marino had 6 seasons of tied or losing record seasons.

And come on dude your better than to make this weak was argument

How long did Rogers sit behind Farve? Sooner or later we need our next QB drafted and I’d rather have one learning for a couple of seasons under Ryan.

Sure, use the 2nd round pick we got from the Pats and take a QB who is raw but has high potential then let him sit a couple years.  If he turns out to be good then he can either replace Ryan or be traded for a 1st round pick, but you don’t do that with a potential 1st QB and possibly #1 overall pick.

I know Elway went 5-11 one season.
