Turkeydawg
I didn't want to clutter up the recruiting thread, so what now happens at FSU? I was saying that they had to make the right hire this time around. However, is that even possible, FSU owes WT $17 million.
95Dawg
PJ Fleck? hes turned around Minn of all places would be easier for him to recruit than you at MN especially if he hires coaches with FL and SE ties.

Not sure if they could afford to pay the $8 million buyout and then turn around and pay him $3.5 million per year, when they still also owe WT so much. True that $$ is going to hamper the hire. think PJ is Rhule are both good what’s Lane’s buyout?
frankly88
I'm kinda surprised it took this long. It was already crystal clear that this was a disaster hire given the talent FSU has on the roster.

Unknøwn
Yeah I think Bob Stoops is the first call. Mark Stoops will also get a call. Fleck might be draw some interest but I think hes more a backup candidate. Bob Stoops is probably their HR hire.
95Dawg
Only things is do they have enough money to pay Bob per year after the WT payout?

Stoops never really got an insane amount at Oklahoma. I think he was around $5M a year when he retired.
Unknøwn
Another name to watch could be Matt Campbell.
youngbloodz
FSU fans on warchant says Urban is the top choice. All bs aside if he gets the job, Miami is done. But I think he goes to USC or the NFL
putnam6
Tallahassee can claim it wants Urban but don't think it has enough prestige nationally anymore to get him. If he returns USC has the money the prestige the recruiting base and less competition to help a fast turn around. 95Dawg
Another name to think of depending on buyout is Les. How’s the grass on that Seminole field.
Unknøwn
FSU's AD was pretty vocal about not targeting Urban. It could have been a decoy but he told the media if Taggart was hit by a bus tomorrow they still wouldnt call Urban. It's pretty clear the boosters want Urban though. They might be winning since Taggart is already out.
youngbloodz
Boosters want Urban badly. USC will eventually get him

He is much to scared to tap his chicken shlt of a toe down here. USC is his next destination Edited November 4, 2019 by BamaBirdLady
Carter
I think the only jobs that might bring Meyer back into coaching are USC or Notre Dame. Don’t think ND will be hiring, but it seems like a lot of people at USC are moving heaven and earth to get Meyer in LA. I don’t think he would have any interest in the FSU job. He’s angling to be inducted into the UF ring of honor. I doubt he wants to compete directly with both UF and Clemson. As far as FSU goes, if they have the money I think they should go after Mario Cristobal. Seems like he learned a lot from his time with Saban. He did just receive a 5 year extension on his contract at Oregon I believe, so it could be cost prohibitive. g-dawg
tl;dr
Gus Malzahn has been mentioned. Don’t see it happening though. I think Brian Kelly would be a great fit at FSU as well. ND could then go get Urban which feels like a better fit than even USC

Kelly is a good coach, but if you can find a way to get Urban to be your HC... it’s hard to say no
Unknøwn
This name slipped my mind but I've heard some talking about it. Pete Thamel of Yahoo also reported hes on the short list. Matt Rhule over at Baylor would be a really solid hire for FSU. Likely wouldnt break the bank and he can build a program with the best of them. I think he'll eventually go back to the NFL but he could really help FSU in the meantime. He would be the Jets HC right now but the Jets offer to Rhule was based on them having final say on his staff. Rhule rejected the offer. mookie3127
Hey guys, long time, no log in or post. So these are of course rumors, so take them with a grain of salt, but it's what I've heard as one of the resident FSU fans here on the boards. Supposedly, FSU raised upwards of $20M in private donations to cover Taggart's buyout. FSU of course denies that. For the cluster that everyone can clearly see in Tallahassee, I'd love for them to own up to raising the $$. I think it would go a long way to say that we won't settle for mediocrity. Bob Stoops was reportedly in Tallahassee yesterday afternoon. The latest "rumor" is that Bob Stoops to FSU is almost done and could be announced as soon as the end of this week or early next week. Additionally, that rumor also says that Jim Leavitt will move from his off the field position into the DC role and Kendal Briles would remain as OC and could become HC in waiting. Again, just rumors, but we'll see what happens.

Carter
Well a local news organization has thrown its weight behind the reports about Bob Stoops this morning. https://www.wtxl.com/news/local-news/sources-fsu-nearing-deal-with-bob-stoops-to-become-next-head-football-coach Would be really interesting to see if this happens. It would be a very uncharacteristic thing for FSU and I have to think there is no way Stoops agrees to take that job without significant guarantees from the school regarding facilities upgrades and continuing what Taggart started in cleaning up the academics inside the football program.
