Florida has opened the door for MLB. The governor declared sports an essential business  MLB did not bite though. In a statement the league said it appreciated the effort but will only return when its safe.

Dr. Anthony Fauci believes American sports can return sooner than some are expecting, but only if strict protocols are in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Fauci said in a Snapchat interview that sports can happen in empty stadiums and with teams quarantined in hotels, rather than having players out and about in public where they might be exposed to the virus, or spreading it to others if they’ve unknowingly been exposed.

“There’s a way of doing that,” Fauci said. “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put them in big hotels, wherever you want to play . . . have them tested every week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family and just let them play the season out.”

The players are divided on this though. The ones with families dont want to leave their family behind that long. MLB would have to quarantine and tests entire families for most of the league as well as minor league depth.

Yeah, I get that and it would be extremely difficult for them, especially the ones that have young children.

But the biggest thing standing in the way of this is a test that would give instant results. Right now the only Covid-19 test is one that doesn't give results until 4-7 days after. That won't work because players would need to be tested nearly every day.

The newest leaked idea is having teams based in Arizona, Texas and Florida. MLB and minor league parks could be utilized. Rangers have a new dome to go with Houstok, Dbacks could provide a dome as well as Tampa and Miami in Florida. Would allow MLB to play as many games as possible without weather concerns. Teams in Texas and Arizona would be in the same league with possible bus rides between states.

Just another leaked idea that's being discussed. Nothing moving forward with it right now.

AAAA?

No, there was originally some talk that undrafted players could get their own league for MLB teams to monitor. Reducing minor league teams will reduce the amount of chances for players. It could be that league that forms from the contracted teams.

So this would basically be like another independent league except under the umbrella of MLB?

MiLB will reportedly accept defeat and agree to MLB's plan to eliminate 40 teams. MLB and MiLB are reportedly working on a new setup that would keep baseball in those 40 cities in the form of a new league that would be connected to MLB.

MiLB put out a statement contradicting this reporting.

Puig and the San Francisco Giants are rumored to be close to a deal. It would be a one-year deal with an option.

And Gabe Kapler quashed that speculation, telling a San Francisco-area radio station that it's not happening.

There is optimism for MLB beginning in June and having a 100 game season. League officials are reportedly optimistic about a new plan. Teams would play at their own parks with no fans, at least initially. The divisions would be altered for one year. There would be 3 divisions of 10 teams. You would only play your own division until an expanded playoffs. Officials believe the season will begin no later than July 2nd. The proposed divisions are...

EAST

  • New York Yankees and Mets, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins

WEST

  • Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners

CENTRAL

  • Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers

Theres no way traditional MLB is happening. They want to limit travel to a degree and get as many games in as possible. Shorter travel means fewer off days between. I'd also take this proposed division over the East. I'll gladly trade with Pittsburgh in this scenario. The biggest obstacle is pay. The owners want the players to take paycuts while theres no ticket or concession money rolling in. That would have to be negotiated.

Bet they would be behind it if they were not getting paid though.
