Fixing the Falcons Part 1 - Front Office and Coaches

526 posts in this topic

This is why roster churn is so important.  Outside of a handful of coaches, the message goes stale and players tune out.  Pick your 4-5 cornerstone pieces and let the rest of the NFL pay your high priced FA’s.

We should have 4 players making top 5 at their position: Ryan, Jones, Grady & Debo.  People like Freeman, Tru, Matthews etc should have been paid by another team in FA.

And Julio should not have been extended until this offseason.  Just too nice & accommodating across the board.  And Blank, stop telling players they are Falcons for life.  It results in your GM saying stupid things like this...who ever heard of a GM rooting for a 9 figure deal?

Aug 1, 2019 · Dimitroff added that the Falcons want Jones to play for the franchise "for the rest of his career, whatever that is."

Nope, he’s gushing because he’s a talking head band wagoner.

And whoopy doo on shotty. Russell Wilson would make any offense top 10.

I admit I’ve never liked ryan, he’s one of most overrated coaches in history.

Exactly it's the agenda. Sure Russell helps make an offense good but what's that have to do with their top 10 running offense? Their backs are just average.

This.  The brotherhood contracts and the players attached to them are killing us.

Agreed.  These guys have killed us this year.  I learned there is no justice in life based on how much money Beasley and Tru have put in their pockets while playing like waiver wire scrubs.

Can't release Vic or Campbell or else the Falcons don't collect comp picks for them. Tru can go.

You still hung up on Mathews? If Ryan didn’t have a left tackle, you would be posting on how it was mistake to let a franchise left tackle leave. Giving the deal to Freeman before SB was big mistake.

This man I thought we’d have learnt that after having Sam Baker Lamar Holmes and alike have a go.

Oline is thee hardest position to draft it just is.

The quality is just not there in abundance so when making hard calls like keeping a guy like Matthews vs what is coming out your hamstrung because of it.

Now that best pass rushers are being moved around alot now RT is also as stressed.Oline is a tough beat.

Best way to protect your QB is either have a creative play caller that moves the pocket or or RUN the **** football that’s what we need and has to be the focus for the next OC.

I'll hit on this real quick

Think how other players felt when they probably already knew Vic didn't care about football but then saw his $13 million option get picked up. I could easily see guys in the locker room think to themselves "well, I guess I don't have to work as hard either to get paid"...I could see others say "he didn't deserve that" and basically tune out Q and the coaching staff because clear favorites are being played.

Plain and simple, it was a toxic move for the rest of the locker room to pick up that option when Vic truly doesn't care about football.

I totally agree. I said this a few weeks ago.

How did Takk take Julio’s speech personally?? Can anyone expand on that?

From the column, I took the meaning to say: He took it to heart. Put another way, it resonated with him.

Hit dog holler.

Thin-skinned folks like that tend to think everything is about them. Remember back to draft night how emotional he was recounting how folks said he wouldn’t go D1 etc. Cat probably hears EVERYTHING everyone says as a slight, even if it’s constructive.

Lol,

The ridiculous excuses runs deep with you huh? Was Matt Ryan out the entire season?

No.....Neal was....as was Rico....and Debo for most of the year.

As was Levitre and Fusco.

And Freeman

And Grady for multiple games.

I could keep going.

You are the one who used the injury excuse.

If KS was such a genius he would have figured out ways to score more..

But yeah continue coming up with childish nicknames for players.....that only makes you a second rate knock off of someone who is already a second rate poster.

Re-read it. He said Takk played harder after Julio's speech. Not that he was offended...he was motivated.

At least that's how I read it. I didn't watch the video.

This the part I caught. I didn’t see anything about playing harder.

Yeah, we read the same thing. I just saw it from a different lens. I read:

"Takk needs to grow up" as a stand alone general statement.

Then I read: "After Julio's speech, Takk took that speech personally. Thinks Takk brings something for next coaching staff" to mean that he benefited from the speech and has something to offer the next staff.

I didn't watch the video, so I don't have any context clues.

But Matt Ryan, Julio, and Jarrett were healthy for most of the season your sassy excuses aside. I dont care about average or terrible players like Free/Fusco/Levitra, the niners just beat the panthers without both starting tackles and with falcon rejects. The game is predicated on the QB, and when healthy they are a juggernaut while we are a laughing stock. Your argument is dead in the water. FYI Shottenheimer ran the Zbs and some gap schemes with the jets. They were able to hide sanchez with a dominating ground attack. Rex would have been more than fine with KS.

Of all those things listed the one im hoping isn't true the most is Debo not taking leadership and shutting it down after getting paid.  He is probably the best player we have on this defense outside of maybe Grady.  If debo shuts it down thats gonna be a massive pill to swallow.  Although i still see him playing hard out there myself most the time.  So i don't think that one is quite as true as it's led to believe.

I think it's more about leadership. He leads by example, but he also hasn't been stepping up and holding anyone accountable. He'll be fine next year, but it's pretty obvious he's despairing a bit with the garbage around him

It’s not any specific player.  My point was simply that one of our high priced FA guys had to be shown the door.  Pick whoever you’d like.  But two years ago I thought Matthews was the sacrifice.  Not cause he is a bad player.  He isn’t.  In fact he is quite good.

But your top contracts can’t look like this:

Ryan: 36 mill

Julio: 20 mill

Grady: 17 mill

Matthews: 16 mill

Tru: 14 mill

Thats half our entire CAP next year on 5 players.  Then include Free, Mack & Debo, all of who will make between 9 & 12 million and it becomes clear: we are excessively top heavy

Pats make these type of cuts all the time.  That’s how you truly churn your roster.  Sometimes tough cuts gotta be made.  Matthews and Trufant would’ve been shown the door without a doubt in the Pats organization.  They release guys like Malcolm Butler and Nate Solder, while we keep guys like Trufant and Matthews.

I'll explain what he was saying.

He specifically said Debo, Campbell and Beasley should have learned something from that '18 season and taken on bigger leadership roles since then. He thought it should have motivated them to get better in all aspects of their game. People in the organization, according to Schultz, wanted those three to step up by now in all aspects of their game and they haven't done that.

He did not mean Debo in the "getting paid and not caring" category. He meant Vic there. He said later than Vic doesn't have a desire for football really. He said Debo hasn't taken the next step in being a leader though. With Campbell, he's never really taken that next step since '16.

@NWFALCON @Bunchy Carter @PeytonMannings Forehead

Let me expand on that Takk comment Schultz made...

According to Schultz, Takk is normally "immature and a goof", especially when giving post game interviews. So normally, reporters aren't really drawn to interview him after games.

After Julio gave that speech, it resonated with Takk in a sense of "crap, Julio might be talking about me" and Takk was more receptive to reporters. Schultz took it as a sign of maturity and to hopefully build on for next coaching staff.

Schultz said Takk has some attractive football qualities and the hustle for the next coaching staff, but he has to get the mental thing down and something as little as giving a coherent and intelligent post game interview means something.

This is me reading between the lines now with what Schultz was saying. I think Takk just has to have somebody that pushes him and leads him to where he needs to be. Example. Joe Horn to Roddy. Roddy was immature, not eating right, not focused, etc. Takk needs a Joe Horn or coach to get him right. It's up to Takk too if he wants to live up to that first round status. He's gotta want it.

They raped this franchise for sure but someone made the decision. They didn’t get that $ at gunpoint.  Time for some Hard justice to be administered.
