MLB to possibly reduce the amount minor league teams

For the A

It would be a significant restructuring but I can get why they want to do it. They are talking about cutting 15-20 rounds out of the draft but the Dream League would help if it happens. It would act as a showcase league for undrafted players. They desperately need to address the pay and how the players are treated more than anything.

Here in New Orleans area our AAA team (Marlins) are leaving. Hopefully we get another one to replace them. Wishful thinking but if they restructure hoping Mississippi Braves come here. A way to increase minor league players getting paid they could expand the MLB 40 man roster to say 50-55.

The Braves own their minor league teams so any full season Braves affiliate is unlikely to be impacted. The short deals with privately owned clubs are the issue MLB clubs are having. I live in Chattanooga and the AA team here has been the Dodgers, Twins and Reds all in the last few seasons. I dont know what itll look like in the end but that stability will be key.

I agree with some of this, and disagree with others. I personally think the rookie leagues represent a critical developmental stage and it would a mistake to wipe it out. I also think, in general, more baseball is better than less baseball, and it would really suck for some of these towns. I don't think the idea of the "Dream League" will work, independent leagues are already in a state of contraction.

Really this all stinks of the commissioner's office putting the health of owners' pocketbooks over the long-term health of the game as a whole, a common feature of the Manfred era.

I do think some realignment is in order.

Anyway, Minor League president Pat O’Conner claps back on the proposal in an interview with The Athletic.
