jlrfalcon 4,103
Anybody who knows anything about Atlanta sports would probably know that Mark Bradley of the AJC and Jeff Schultz of the Athletic (formerly of AJC) are two of the most powerful sports editorial writers in this city. On a night like tonight where the Falcons are in disaster and the owner says he is willing to wait on Quinn, both of these writers should have strong editorials criticizing the Falcons. They could criticize the players, coaches or the owner and be legit. Instead, BOTH of them write articles talking all happily about the Braves. I agree the Braves are something to rejoice but this is what should be covered by junior editorial writers. The Braves win was great but even they still have a game to win in their series. One of the biggest reasons this city continues to see its sports teams suffer is that its strongest editorial writers are unwilling to be strong when its teams need to hear how its fans really feel and how idiotic its coaches are being. jlrfalcon 4,103
Blank is not listening to the fans or noticing the lack of them in the stands? Quinn is not hearing boo birds or reading this board? The only way that Quinn or Blank are going to truly feel the need to change the Falcons is the local press. Ledbetter is almost as big a joke as Beasley McClure is not bad for ESPN but is not really Falcons-focused entirely 92.9 The Game is pretty good in its criticism and improving the voice of Atlanta fans but still growing The AJC and Athletic are who Quinn is really talking to when he has his press conferences. Honestly, the support for the Atlanta sports media isn't high enough for them to be that ballsy. It's one thing if you're in Boston, but no one in Atlanta gives a **** enough our teams for these guys to risk losing their media passes and interviews. Jen 371
Honestly, they should be talking about the Braves over the Falcons. There's nothing to talk about concerning this team. The Falcons are miserable and the Braves are on the cusp of what looks to be several years of greatness. I'd rather read about a winning team who can get it done in the 9th inning with two outs than these dudes who are so bad they don't even have the opportunity to choke in the 4th because they are already beaten. citsalp, Born Again Georgian, tactician and 1 other
schwarzenegger321 2,685
The only thing that will work is loud and constant “fire Quinn” from the crowd at the next home game. To criticize is to care. They are so irrelevant now, most of the city doesn't care. Perhaps being *ignored* will be the thing that wakes Blank up. When you have sold all of those PSLs they don't have to care for a while before it starts to accumulate and take affect on the books. I've already had a saint fan come up to me talking about how cheap he will be able to get tickets. They will take over the Benz that Sunday. It's embarrassing, but such is being an Atlanta sports fan where the owner's main pride comes from a $1.50 frankfurter! There are times where I wish I was born in another city. Everybody AGREES the Braves are joyful and exciting right now and writing an editorial like that is really not an editorial but a feel-good story. Writing an editorial that maybe makes people rethink their views is a real editorial.

feelnu 20
AJC has always been a joke. I don't expect any hardball topics from them. The local media is too afraid they'd lose ALL Access to the teams if given a truthful critique. Don't forget to add DLed to that list. His passive aggressive columns are a waste of time. Jesus 26,595
Do you suppose that players don't play hard because the local press isn't vocal enough? You should read the NYC and Chicago press after their teams lose.
Expert Poster 895
I think this is backwards. ATL sports media is lukewarm because we rarely win championships and college football swallows everything else up. Our teams aren't unsuccessful because of a lack of media pressure/enthusiasm. There's a lack of media pressure/enthusiasm because our teams aren't successful. Mr. Captain Falcon
