Why can't Dirk Koetter and Matt Ryan rekindle that 2012 magic?

If we can get our offensive line healthy and give them time to gel there is no reason why Matt Ryan and Dirk Koetter can't rekindle that 2012 magic or better. Our 2012 rushing attack was average at best as Michael Turner had lost a step. If our offensive line stays banged up and has moving parts all the time our offense will struggle no matter who the offensive coordinator is.

Michael Turner, OL still mediocre. Being asked to run a scheme he isn't familiar with.

Too many cooks in the kitchen.

At this point DQ should just let Ryan call the plays at the line

Great point on SOS, I had forgotten that.

That's the smitty I choose to remember, not the 2013-14 burned out version. Those early years of smith were the best coaching I ever saw in team history.

I agree. I just can't figure out what happened in the playoffs. DQ Falcons teams play much better in the playoffs.

Turner missed few games. The Falcons almost beat the Saints in dome with Redman and Snelling as RB. I still remember Wes and archer screaming through their lungs after winning the last game in Tampa. Falcons finally have back to back winning season. We have come a long way after Smitty took over a dump.

Falcons would have won that game against the Saints with Redman had the refs not robbed them. Early in the game Grimes made an amazing interception but was called for PI. Worst PI call I've ever seen in my life since he never laid a finger on the receiver. They gave the Saints the ball back and they got a TD out of it. Still needed a last second FG to win that game.

Yeah. That and heart breaker in OT against Giants in meadowlands.

The Saints have won a lot because of refs. They finally got a taste of their own medicine in the NFCCG.

The 2011 game at sewer dome when Brees broke the record for most yards was one of the worst officiated game.

Ryan led the Falcons on 2 4th quarter TD drives to tie the game and force OT and then Falcons never even touched the ball in OT.

I was at that game and It was crazy especially the ref making up rules to help the saints.

Was that the game where they came up with the weird intentional grounding ruling that took away a safety from the Falcons? I can't remember exactly what they called but it was something I've never heard before or since.

I was explaining that I did not know because I did not personally hear it until his rookie season.

How much BC football and Philadelphia high school football do you watch? That's probably the reason.

Not even close. I will take Free over 2012 Turner. MM ran turner to ground and him showing up 40 lbs overweight to camp didn't help either.

The 2012 Burner had 928 yards and 11 TDs. Free is on pace for 1160 yards and 0 TDs. So you'd give up 11 TDs for 232 yards? OK.

He put offense in 3rd and long losing yards on early downs and then busting one big run in the end. IIRC Turner lead the lead NFL in negative runs that year.

To be fair, a lot of that is Ryan too. Ryan definitely didn’t light the world on fire in his playoff appearances with Smitty.

Lol I can post YouTube videos of any one to make them look better.

Post a video of Free running over NFL defenses for 11 TDs in 2019.

They said, there wasn't a hold in the endzone because the Saints were running a screen and yep took the safety away.

IMO, I don't think 2019 Matt Ryan can operate in the ATL 2012 offense with the same efficiency.  I think Matt Ryan has lost some arm strength, not just on the deep ball, but with putting the ball in tight windows.   Koetter playbook requires more tight throws.  (Why do you think Tony G. has so many highlights making congested catches...and now Matt Ryan is caught forcing passes to TEs yet again).
Shanahans offensive concepts are the best thing for Matt Ryan as he nears retirement.  Having a steady ground game with short passes, and the deep passing game is predicated on PA passes which gives matt ryan time in the pocket to "wind-up" and throw deep.

Why can’t platform shoes with goldfish and leisure suits come back for men? They’re old,  ugly and illogical, just like the Dirk Koetter is as an OC.

Add videotape Pornography to list. Oh wait, Dirk has the perfect name for old school porn.

It’s an head scratcher why Ollison is not active. Turner from 2008-2010 was a dominating bowling ball.

It's not a head-scratcher at all. The answer is clearly and obviously one of two things.

  • Poor drafting
  • Stupid, stubborn coaching

Or possibly both.
