Can We Extend Tyeler Davidson Now?

We absolutely could but I suspect we'll wait until the second half of the season...

Yeah, they said both sides are interested in a long term deal back when he originally signed, but we’ll see.

You’d think if they wanted that, it would be before UFA next offseason. Good call on making the decision later this year instead.

Its all dependent on the draft and what they want to do with Beasley and Crawford they’ll dictate the If Davison stays or not.Right now I’d have my eyes peeled on upgrades at DB.

I actually love that we have all these tough decisions to be made the coaches and FO must be doing something right.

I wanted me some Dex during the draft but would he have been as good as Davison for the amount we are paying him with a cap hit of 735 K.Very smart move by the FO and coaches getting this guy.

I actually think you should look at LB before DB. I think Campbell is gone. We've got a solid secondary. Maybe even adding to the DL again or finalizing the OL. I've got DB low on the list of things for this team.

OP.  Man I love the way this guy plays!  We left him in on a ton of obvious passing played because of the amount of penetration he got. He absorbed his double team and almost always got 2 steps in the backfield. QB can't step up into his throw. If Beasley gets 8 sacks 4 to 5 of them will be because of Davidson and/or Grady's penetration.

He is stout and plays with tremendous leverage. He's not your typical nose weighing in at just 309 (actually lighter than he was coming out of college). but he plays like he's 340 because of that leverage he gets. Former high school wrestler. Can disengage easily with his 34" arms and use that strength he has (32 reps of 225) to shed and tackle.

Heck yes we should lock him up with a Jack Crawford type contract if we are lucky. He's the biggest surprise to me and made the decision to not take Dexter Lawrence make much more sense.

agreed...it does depend on the Beasley decision. i hope the FO ask these questions before any other...is Vic worth $13/yr and could that money be spent better elsewhere...ie signing Davison...extending Crawford, Campbell....etcetc

is Means under contract for next year?

No, it was a 1 year deal with opportunity to start given Brooks Reed cut.

It'll be interesting to see if VB goes off this year before UFA. Hard to think we can retain him if UFA wants to give him $15M+ per year avg.

Hooper is more likely than Vic, IMO.

I’m not seeing Crawford back.

Cominsky was specifically drafted to become at minimum an interior pass rush specialist like Jack and eventually even starting base DE snaps where Bailey is currently.

Campbell we are unlikeliest of all to keep.

So much to decide after the season and a lot can change by then.

I thought Means was in a 1 year deal I could be wrong but that cat is a good run defender aswell.Just needs more snaps to see what he has pass rush wise.Thats another reason why I believe Clayborn could be another fall guy for next year also.

WOW.

Falcons picked him up on a one year deal for peanuts....relatively speaking.  $895,000

They should resign him now.  Will they?

The Falcons are already $6 million over next year's cap.  They will need to make hard choices next year but they could get a deal done.

The good news is that he isn't the flashy stat producing player so the Falcons might be able to get a decent deal.... BUT he's a 27 year old DT with proven value and the Falcons are paying a lot of money elsewhere.... AND they have to pay Neal and make a decision about Beasley.  McKinnley is also on the horizon.

In the NFL you can't pay everyone.  Yeah.  Hard choices.

Beasley, Freeman and Bosher gone next year gives us 20M plus. Not sure Neal is a lock, would rather pay Hooper.

Gotta pay Neal and Hoop. Campbell might not be a lock.

I hate to say this but Neal could be easily replaced and possibly upgraded in my eyes. Next year will be his 5th year option where we could load up on his replacement and let him sit and learn for a year. Hoop is def not going anywhere tho.

gotcha...i think DQ tries to keep what he feels like are his base/core players around. as long as he doesnt get all sentimental about keeping Vic (1st draft pick under him) then i think he values Crawford, Campbell, and AC. Crawford and Cominsky can get Vic's snaps. and Davison to me is a no-brainer of a signing.  bring back Means on a 1yr deal again to see what he's got (still young i think). then Neal and Hooper are your big money signings...imo i dont think he let's Neal walk at all!!!

Only Freeman would create new space. Bosher and Beasley don’t count toward next year and we are over the cap as of today...

Neal’s option was already picked up. He is signed through 2020.

Hooper is the best question after we free up some space...

GTFO with this sh*t. Neal is on the cusp of being an elite player the same way Deion Jones already is.

I agree with you I think Rico is a **** of a player but we do have Kazee.  I do think Campbell is replaceable with our LB’s development.

No it doesn’t.

Beasley isn’t under contract next year.  The Falcons are 6 million over the cap without him.

The biggest question will be what to do with Mack.

i dont see a LB with Campbell's size and speed on the roster...not so easy to replace with what we currently have...

Draft one, FA, Cuts...maybe he doesn’t get the deal he wants on the market and comes back.  Maybe he loves the brotherhood lol

And Debo actually is getting subbed out with Foye. We don't have a sub for what Neal brings

Yeah I’m not sure about that one.

Tone setters are hard to come by and having them in a physical defense is important.

Neal is one of thee mentioned.
