Osiruz
By: Matt Urben | August 27, 2019 2:30 pm 1. Italian Iceberg K Giorgio Tavecchio (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images) After another disappointing performance last week from Tacecchio against the Redskins, the Falcons brought in former Vikings and Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh to compete for the starting job. Tavecchio had a strong 2018 season, so maybe a little bit of competition is what he needs to get refocused. He reportedly didn’t kick in front of the media at today’s practice but he will on Thursday 2. Firey Ginger OT Kaleb McGary Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports McGary’s heart condition certainly scared Falcons fans a few weeks ago. However, he has recovered from his procedure quicker than expected. McGary has been a full participant in practice the last few days and coach Dan Quinn says he plans to play him against Jacksonville, but needs confirmation from his doctor first. Assuming he plays, it will interesting to see how McGary performs at right tackle in his first live NFL game. 3. OT Ty Sambrero (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images) Sambrailo also has a legitimate chance to start at right tackle this season for Atlanta, particularly if McGary isn’t ready to start yet. He may have hurt his chances, though, by missing last week’s game against Washington with a shoulder injury. Sambrailo is set to play on Thursday though. He needs a good showing to hold off the surging Gono. Sambrailo earned a respectable three-year deal earlier this offseason. However, he still needs to prove that he’s a viable starter in this league. 4. OT Matt Gono Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports Gono wasn’t supposed to have a major role at all in 2019 with Atlanta spending most of their offseason resources on offensive line upgrades. But with injuries to Ty Sambrailo and Kaleb McGary, Gono has gotten more time than expected. Last week, he was surprisingly sturdy against Washington, outside of a few missed assignments. If Gono follows up with another good game, the right tackle competition could get very interesting. 5. K Blair Walsh Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports Walsh has significantly more experience than Tavecchio but has also missed some big kicks in his career, which is why he’s available so close to the start of the season. It’s already off to a rough start. Walsh reportedly missed four of nine field goals on Tuesday. Somebody has to win the starting kicker job, and it will likely come down to whoever plays better in Atlanta’s preseason finale. If both Walsh and Tavecchio fail, it’s possible the team will have no choice but to re-sign the 44-year-old Matt Bryant.
V-Town Falcon
Good to hear that McGray is doing well as I didn't think he had a chance to play a pre-season game. Still might not if doctors say he can't. Hopefully he can and have a good showing. HASHBROWN3

ATLskinjob
I'm excited to see McGary play versus that insane Jags Dline. Our offense is gonna really have it's work cut out for them. I'm fully expecting for the same thing that happens every time we play the Jags in the preseason to happen. They always have a good Dline and they always get good pressure and everyone always freaks out. We'll see though. Maybe the Oline will surprise us. They've been burning high picks on Dline for years. The most we've spent on Dline in the draft has been on Vic and Senat. I really hope that this trial by fire helps Lindstrom and McGary hold that right side down. They are the future of our Oline.

But, you blew your chance almost as fast as scamahan blew his chance to run three times and kick the game setting FG in the superbowl.... Wish they would say what the issue is instead of saying they called him but did not ask him to try out. He has been the best clutch kicker we've had in recent history. Any doubt he would have made the missed preseason kicks? Again, he was MONEY for us. What is the freaking problem?

PriMeTiiMe
RB Battle - Ollison and Hill. With Barner almost surely to make the roster now, I doubt we keep both these guys. WR Battle - With Gage's injury it opens up the chance we keep 7 WRS rather than just 6. Be interesting to see who we keep on the 53. TE Graham - Does he play? Does he make the cut? RT action between Gono, Ty and McGary D-Line - Guys like Hagemen, Larkin, etc need to show out in this last game if they want to make roster. LB - Does Riley play well for the 2nd time in a row? Does Bruce Carter make the cut? Tim Mazetti
NorthGaBoy
15 hours ago, Doug Carlton said: Matt Bryant is the easiest call EVER! What the **** are they waiting for? It helps to be aware of two things. First, these guys get paid to write. They can sit at their breakfast table in pajamas and use what they learned in the media and make the rest up, or they can schedule an appointment, drive to Flowery Branch, conduct an interview, take notes, go to the office and review the notes, and write their article. They get paid the same. Which one do you think happens most often? Second, the Falcons play things close to the vest until players get signed, resigned, cut, moved to IR, retired, etc. Even if the reporter was doing his job properly, there is no reason to believe the reporter knows anything about discussions with Bryant which may or may not be on-going. He is just a sports reporter. It is just a sports article. And, we can only guess what is happening. Doug Carlton
