theProf
Falcons release undrafted CB Rashard Causey, sign S Ronald Martin The team made the moves following the loss last night. By Evan Birchfield@EvanBirchfield Aug 2, 2019, 4:06pm EDT The Atlanta Falcons announced Friday they are parting ways with undrafted cornerback Rashard Causey. In a corresponding move, the team announced the addition of safety Ronald Martin. Causey, the former University of Central Florida cornerback, signed with the Falcons after he went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2018, Causey started five games for the Knights, recording 48 tackles (39 solo) and three forced fumbles. In Thursday’s Hall of Fame game, Rashard Causey played 17% of the defensive snaps and 24% of the special teams snaps. Unfortunately for him, his biggest impact on the game was when he was flagged for defensive pass interference on a fourth down, which allowed the Denver Broncos to remain in, and ultimately win, the game. According to Over the Cap, Rashard Causey’s 2019 salary was $498,333, which is about .26% of the overall cap. With only $10,000 of it being guaranteed, it’s safe to say that the team wasn’t fooling around with players making crucial mistakes late in the game. Martin, who joins fellow former LSU Tigers Deion Jones, Duke Riley, and Russell Gage, signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft. He’s spent time with the Jets and the Colts, racking up one tackle and one assist in 13 game appearances. Martin had 149 tackles and five interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, over his four-year college career. The Falcons also hosted safety Dexter McCoil for a visit on Friday, which likely hints that they’re focused on improving the depth in the defensive backfield. https://www.thefalcoholic.com/2019/8/2/20752135/falcons-release-undrafted-cb-rashard-causey-sign-s-ronald-martin Falcster, Ergo Proxy and gazoo
theProf
Report: Falcons hosting S Dexter McCoil for a visit 1 comment A possible depth signing at safety By Evan Birchfield@EvanBirchfield Aug 2, 2019, 2:25pm EDT Following a loss in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, the Atlanta Falcons have reportedly worked out free agent safety Dexter McCoil. Dexter McCoil went undrafted out of Tulsa in 2013 and wound up signing with the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos in 2014, where he played safety for two seasons. He then went on to spend time with both the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers. McCoil worked out for the Falcons in May of this year, so a signing may be more likely. He’s appeared in 26 games during his NFL career, two of which he started, and has recorded 23 tackles and one interception. McCoil has played linebacker at times in his career, and the Falcons do love players with that kind of versatility. The move could be associated with the fact that the team recently lost backup safety J.J. Wilcox for the season with a torn ACL. The Falcons current depth at safety is Sharrod Neasman, Jason Thompson, Parker Baldwin, Chris Cooper, and Kemal Ishmael, who transitioned back to safety from linebacker after Wilcox’s injury. Stay tuned to The Falcoholic as we’ll update you if a signing occurs. https://www.thefalcoholic.com/2019/8/2/20752017/report-falcons-hosting-s-dexter-mccoil-for-a-visit-49ers-chargers gazoo, Ergo Proxy and Falcster

theProf
Scouting Report on Ronald Martin coming out of college Overview Earned LSU's Mike Miley Leadership Award and the Most Improved Award based on his hard work and effort during spring drill. Pro Day Results 40-yard dash: 4.65 and 4.63 seconds Vertical jump: 33 1/2 inches Broad jump: 10 feet, 1 inch Analysis Strengths Physical, box-safety linebacker. Plays through the whistle and relishes contact. Played as an additional linebacker against physical, run-based teams in Wisconsin and Arkansas. Disengages quickly in run support and will take on blockers to keep contain when called on. Can cover tight ends and shows adequate ball skills. Reacts quickly to throws in his area. Emotional leader on the field. Weaknesses Average athlete with average play speed. Has coverage limitations. Struggles when asked to match up with speed in space. He's a tick slow to get through his route recognition at times. Shows some reckless traits in open field as a tackler. Steams downhill at suspect angles. Short-area change of direction issues limit him as a tackler against running backs with shake. Draft Projection Priority free agent Bottom Line Loves football and brings physicality and competitiveness to each snap. Limited in coverage and as a functional athlete. His best bet is to make it as a situational sub and core special-teamer. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/ronald-martin?id=2552394

Well they still have back-up SS Sharrod Neasman, who played rather well last year, with 44 Tackles and 4 PDS in 12 games. It appears that the Falcons are leaving no stone unturned though, as they have looked at Wilcox, Ish, Martin, and possibly McCoil as possible SS depth thus far. I am no Ortiz fan; in fact, I think carrying a player at the FB position is counter-productive to roster utilization...however, that said, I noticed Ortiz make a BRILLIANT ST play on our one good return, and even saw Quinn give him kudos for it...executed a perfect ST block on a guy, came in from the side and shifted his body so that he could block him from the side without blocking him in the back... Yep, they are bringing in more Unrestricted Free Agents this year than in any other year that I can recall, in hopes of improving the roster. Although Bailey, Davison, Clayborn, Hageman, Carpenter, Brown, and Stocker are not stars, still they should provide significant value and make meaningful contributions to the team. Perhaps some of the other new UFA signings: Anthony, Barner, Cooper, Grace, and Wetzel might also make the team. VTCrunkler
