So he was paid the top contract for a WR at the time. But because others signed contracts that averaged better for 2018. That means he's justified in making more?

So should Ryan say he should make more? He's performed better, and there's other QB that at making more than him this year..... He's barely in the top 20

Yup, that's pretty much how a job market works.

This is Julio's argument, along with his lack of contract security. What you're showing is cap hit, not pay. Those aren't equal. Matt's salary is only $2.75MM for 2019, but his signing bonus in 2018 was $46.5MM and he got another signing bonus this summer for $8.75. So in the past two years, he's made $64MM in cash but his cap hits only total $33.5MM.

Why shouldn't he?

No wr should be getting that amount , I said this the other day michael thomas has earned that contract but non qbs should never get paid 100 mil or more.

But why shouldn't he be the highest paid wide receiver? I haven't seen a single person against it give a solid reason as to why he shouldn't

Seems like complete candor ~ no need to hedge or beat around the bush on the situation. The organization believes he's the best WR in the league and they want to reward him for it by making him the highest paid.

I don't know how they're going to do it, but it looks like they're going to try and get it done since they've said so "on the record."

I guess. But I would prefer waiting with all the accolades to media once contract was signed, sealed, and delivered.

I’m sure he does. I mean why wouldn’t he. Think back. Before Roddy held out Larry Fitzgerald signed a record deal at the time. Roddy was doing an ESPN interview and they mentioned Fitz contract and Roddy said, “so that’s what the top receivers are making now”. Next thing you know he held out.

The best are always going to think it. People with a little common sense know it. Players outplay contracts all the time. It’s just a matter of who makes the first move when it comes to adjusting those numbers. I just find it hilarious how people can ***** about a player wanting to be paid his worth but say nothing when a player is let go. How can you tell a player to honor a contract when teams say screw contracts every year and not a word is spoken other than “it’s just business”. **** that.

You got d@mn right about that J. And guys probably wouldn’t wanna re negotiate contracts if teams never cut players. All this started when FA was introduced. Deion Sanders set the standard for the CB market. The falcons lost the best corner ever because they didn’t want fo pay him. The falcons sucked again until 98.

And why is that? Of no wr should get that money no qb, no DE, and no DT should be getting the amount they get. How tf can you put a cap on what a certain position can make. Dan Marino and elway was only making 5 million a year when they played and were tops at their position. So if you have that same energy no qb should be getting paid what they get paid. It’s the f*cking market. You wanna blame somebody blame the league for FA.

Exactly!!! On the same token no qb should be getting what they get using the same logic. The qb touches the ball every play but he still has to have somebody to throw it to. And not just any guy can do. Matt Ryan isn’t gonna turn just a guy into a star. He’s not. Julio was a star in college. He was top 3 in the nation in high school, #1 or 2 in the nation in college, and #1 in the nfl. Wtf??? Pay him.

Me and a co-worker were talking about this when i came in this morning. The NFL has a ****** up salary cap situation where the market is screwed every single year. Freakin Devin Funchess signed a 1 year $10 million dollar deal. a guy that hasn't even surpassed 1,000 yards in a season. Sammy Watkins, 3 years $48 million and TATF members want to complain that one of if not the best wants to be paid accordingly. FOH with that BS. The contracts are only going to get higher as the cap goes up. If there was a set number for performance per position across the league that wouldn't satisfy anyone either

People don’t seem to notice WR is now the 3rd highest positional unit.  The TAG IS 16 million.  This kind of money is what receivers now command.  It’s s passing league.  Makes sense

Nothing will. And as the cap goes up and some scrub resets the market the best players want market value. Baseball and basketball do the same thing. Maybe the nfl should be like baseball or do away with the cap. Maybe fans wouldn’t be so pissed at whatca player makes. Lol

exactly. according to those numbers, WR's are valued slightly more than Offensive lineman. i seriously want to read a logical reason as to why he shouldn't be in the position to be the highest paid. I don't wanna hear about "he has 3 years left" so freakin what. I haven't seen a legit argument yet supporting the whining

They'll still get upset about something. Every player can make 5 mill across the board and there's going to be at least 15% of every fan base that has a complaint.

Honest answer: there isn’t.  If someone was willing to pay MT 19.99 million APY, that then becomes the  current market for top 5 WR’s.

I was annoyed when he tried to get a new deal 3 years early.  But I’m ok with it getting done now.

People complaining about paying that much to a WR are simply editorializing their preference rather than what actually is in today’s NFL

Good post. Look at it this way. Some of these guys if they were business owners and had the same attitude paying their execs market value per position they’d never get any of the best young executives. Which was a reason the falcons could never get top players to come to Atl before blank because they never wanted to pay anybody. Fans always tried to say because the team was sorry. No the team was sorry because they drafted bad and wouldn’t pay good players to come here. Now that TD drafts well and blank established an open check book to pay our good players and great players to come in via FA they’re complaining. And we now stay relevant in playoff talks pretty much every year now. I can’t understand this way of thinking.
